Good puzzle, Brian.

Standardized testing started out as a good thing, but it has become a source of great stress for teachers and undue anxiety and mental exhaustion for the students.

Thanks. I agree completely T.

I had to look up "NCLB". I didn't recognize it as an acronym.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that I really enjoyed taking standardized tests. In college I'd CLEP'd out of all the math requirements for an art degree, so I took the GRE almost out of nostalgia. It was just like the SAT, with the math and verbal sections, but with LOGIC problems added in!!!

Like Kristen, I always did great at standardized testing and multiple choice because I am logical and analytical. It's facing a blank page that causes me anxiety.

Equations sing to me but writing an essay is torture.

I had to look up the acronym again, because I didn't remember. It's No Child Left Behind, for those who don't want to look it up for themselves. ;)

Thanks!

Working older puzzles and came across this one. It hit home. Being a retired teacher for three years the NCLB was the most ridiculous thing that even went through education. How can anyone assume that all students will read on grade level by 2014? When it didn't happen, instead of saying it was an unreachable thing, they said that teachers jobs would depend on the outcome of how the students scored. I retired then.

Great puzzle.

Funny image! I excelled at test-taking in all subjects, including writing, but I still looked like this after having to hand-write essays, probably due to poor penmanship contributing to hand fatigue. If only I had had a computer keyboard!

Ironically, I never could correlate test-taking skill to any real-world advantage. Life just doesn't have as clearly defined logic borders to play within as a well-written test question.
