Puzzle Description:

...of bacon! Tomorrow is my company's Thanksgiving lunch and I have signed up to bring a "Bacon Cake". Will be going to the store tonight for ingredients and inspiration. I'm going to wing it (no recipe) and I'll let you all know how it turns out.

thanks for the spelling catch aldege...i have corrected it :)

i've never heard of a bacon cake either. i'm sure there are probably recipes online, but i'd rather create my own without being influenced. i'm heading to the grocery right now. will report back how it turns out.

sorry to disappoint you, levi.

It turned out OK i guess. it's not pretty though, because i was trying for a maple icing and used cream cheese icing...i kept adding maple syrup to it and it ended up using so much it thinned to almost a glaze. It was a three-layer cake, so without a thick frosting, i couldn't pretty-up the sides, so it isn't very attractive, but the filling between the layers was SO tasty!

Here's the "recipe":

Cake - Three layers of traditional white cake (mix) with bacon grease in lieu of vegetable oil...some of it left white and some tinted red and then marbled together into horizontal layers/striations

Filling - Mascerated fried apples mixed with brown sugar, maple, powdered sugar, cinnamon, cardamom...and small bits of crisped bacon fat.

Glaze - Cream cheese icing with a bottle of maple syrup mixed in.

Topping - Small pieces of bacon meat candied with brown sugar, cinnamon and a little maple into little nuggets.

I loved the puzzle and enjoyed solving it... I can't decide what I think about a bacon cake though... a part of me thinks yummy but another part worries about my cholesterol level!!!

There's a local doughnut shop here in Rapid City, SD that has a long-john with a maple frosting on it, topped with a hefty thick slab of bacon. Interesting and tasty.
