Puzzle Description:

If Ted Turner can colorize WWII, why can't I? The raising of the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima.

very, very nice, liz. i was waiting to see if someone would do this and thought it would be difficult to do, but you pulled it off. you managed to incorporate a lot of movement in such a tight space.

On puzzles with a splash of color like this, I challenge myself to do the color first. The red was a little tricky in r3&5, but it was all able to be placed before the rest of the puzzle.

Oh, and to do an adam:
When this WCP started, I remembered seeing an Iwo Jima some time ago. Searching for it was fruitless as you can only search on the titles on the Find page (and nearly everyone disguises their titles). In the Forum, you can search the comments, but "Iwo Jima" only shows up in a comment on an Icelandic flag...

Then I stumbled over it completely by accident. It was a Jan puzzle - #59: On Suribachi and "Iwo Jima" only shows up in the "flavor text".

Or maybe I should've just said:

I also do the same with the color, if possible, Joe. And thanks for finding the other puzzle. That was a great rendition, with a little more vertical space (and less color).

I don't care if people note that puzzle ideas have been duplicated (more to solve, whee!). My thought is that having two different versions of the same image is interesting, and a lot of us haven't visited many of those earlier puzzles, unless we've done a search or used the randomizer.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

liz.... JUST keep doing

I agree, Liz. A tiny difference in the drawing can make an entirely different solving experience. I just thought it was interesting that it reappeared just as I was thinking about it.
