Puzzle Description:

One Race: The Human Race

#1: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 7, 2010

Racial distinctions were first made in the 18th Century, based on personal observation, separating American Indians ad Africans from Europeans.

Since 1900, 26 different racial terms have been used to identify populations in the US Census. Today in the US, it is sometimes difficult to determine one's specific race, as more and more individuals claim ancestors of many different "races."

My daughter Karie's ancestors came from Europe, my son John's genetic background includes Native American and Hispanic.

The American Antrhopological Association states: "The clearest data about human variation come from studies of genetic variation, which are clearly quantifiable and replicable. Genetic data show that, no matter how racial groups are defined, two people from the same racial group are about as different from each other as two people from any two different racial groups."

What race do I claim when filling out a form that asks?

Human Race.

Yes indeed! One race. Individual differences are what make us unique, all the important stuff is what unites us.

Nice puzzle. At first I thought your puzzle description might end up as "Me". :)
#10: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 9, 2010 [SPOILER]
Thanks, Gator.

Maybe it is me! :-) My hair used to be dark, now is light. My skin used to be really tan, now I shun the sun for health reasons and amy very pale. Wait, that would be a different image. Not me after all. Just represents all the people I know who can claim many or no "races."
