Puzzle Description:

When I first started making it the plan was for "SELECT" and "START" to be individual, readable letters. It would have been about 190x85. Now aren't you glad it was "only" 90x35? (FYI, a passably accurate Nintendo logo would have made this about 280x110 ...readable copyright emblem? 840x330)

Probably one of the biggest puzzles I have solved. I have a small screen which makes it difficult for me to do larger puzzles. This puzzle was pretty easy but I had a really fun time solving it. Well done!

Yes, I'm glad it was not any bigger. It barely fit on my screen, and since I couldn't solve it in "bigger" mode, I had my face up close to read the little numbers. But it was fun to solve.

I kept thinking that thing on the left looked familiar, but couldn't quite figure it out until the end. Here's the image, for those who might not know what this particular Nintendo control pad looks like:

It is the first part of the "Konami code" which appeared in many games on the NES.

Thank you, Gator. I for one, had no idea. From that Wiki resource:

The song "99 Lives" by the Petit Project also makes reference to the song, the chorus is as follows "up up down down left right left right b a select start.

For having played NES for the first several years of my life, I didn't recognize this controller until I read the description. This surely could have been condensed further and a bit more recognizable. The link Teresa gave is not an actual controller, but a belt buckle (I KNOW you could've found a better image)

Better image as requested:

Just my opinion, but "more recognizable" means either boosting the size so the words are readable, thus making harder to "condense further" (see description) or adding more context maybe? I could have done a little one...five-pixel directional pad and one red for each button and maybe added another controller and a TV with a tetris shape on the screen...but that wasn't really my goal here.

More recognizable doesn't necessarily mean more realistic.

i think i covered that, no? if you have another idea, please share it.

Most of it fit on my screen. Enough to manage, but it was worth the little bit of trouble. Fun to solve.
