Puzzle Description:
Ant
#1: Gator (Gator) on May 14, 2009 [HINT]
Requires edge logic.#2: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on May 14, 2009
Another tough but fun one.#3: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on May 14, 2009
Found to be logically solvable by jan.#4: Jan Wolter (jan) on May 14, 2009 [HINT]
Took me more than edge logic. Also needed some two-way logic at one point.#5: MarioMax (MarioMax) on May 14, 2009 [HINT]
Edge logic for me. But once I found something that worked, the rest of the puzzle fell in place pretty easy. Hard one but good.#6: Matt Coulter (mcoulter) on Nov 10, 2009 [HINT]
This might be the hardest of your puzzles I've done yet, Gator. I'm completely stuck. Wish I could post a pic of what I've got so far. I'm estimating I'm about 40% completed, but can't figure out any of the edge logic. Could I get a hint about how to place any of the edges perhaps?#7: Gator (Gator) on Nov 10, 2009 [HINT]
I have dots in C6-12 and C20 of R1
Dots in R1-2, R7-13 of C20.
Dots in C11 and 20 of R20.
And dots in R8 and 14 of C1.
That doesn't narrow it down far enough, though...
Look at row 2. You will not be able to fill in R2C8 and other cells on that row.#8: ant (agrest272) on Jan 15, 2010
Also look at row 19. Think about trying to place the 5 clue in columns 12-16. You will see this cannot happen. Knowing the 5 clue is not over there, you can dot more cells in row 20.
You will need to find a way forward in the lower left part next. One way is outlined below, but I believe there are several ways.
Knowing that the 5 clue in row 19 has to go in columns 1-10, focus on what happens in row 18. In every case, R18C4 will be filled in.
Another way is to look at column 4 (5 clue) crossed with columns 18 (6 clue) and 19 (5 clue). Notice that if both R18C4 and R19C4 are dots, this will cause column 9 to be invalid. So R18C4 or R19C4 has to be filled in, and if R19C4 is filled in then R18C4 is filled in.
Either way, it will solve out normally from there.
wow tricky puzzle.. Once I followed your hint in #7 about C4 it all came together. Awesome job#9: Matt Coulter (mcoulter) on Feb 16, 2010
Finally!! This one sat in my saved puzzles for months, and I finally solved it on attempt number, oh, about 512. I don't know why it was so difficult for me, but this one has caused me the most angst of any puzzle I've done yet. Not that that's a bad thing! I loved how much this stretched my brain, and now I have a greater sense of accomplishment. :)#10: Gator (Gator) on Feb 16, 2010
:) That is always a great feeling to have when finishing a puzzle.#11: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jul 28, 2010 [HINT]
same as many others this puzzle has been in my saved folder for a while...every once in a while i would bring it up and stare at it blankly for a bit and end up closing it after only being able to add a dot if i was lucky. great sense of accomplishment when I found the R18C4. great puzzle!#12: Gator (Gator) on Jul 28, 2010
Thanks David. I'm glad you got through it.#13: Liz P (Lizteach) on Aug 7, 2010
Another one of those "praying for pixels" puzzles. Loved it.#14: Robert Kummerfeldt (rmkummerfeldt) on Aug 21, 2010
Very challenging for a 'smaller' puzzle. I'm a little rusty after a long break from pbn, but puzzles like this should get me back in gear in a hurry.#15: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Oct 16, 2010
one of my favorite puzzles of yours#16: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Sep 23, 2011
excellent
Sheer brilliance Gator! Love it :)#17: Gator (gator) on Sep 23, 2011 [SPOILER]
Thanks marz. You should try "Crawler-LLS". It is a line logic solvable version of this puzzle.#18: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Sep 23, 2011
Ok cool, I will, thanks Gator.#19: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Sep 23, 2011
Actually Gator, I have already solved it and absolutely loved it :)#20: Gator (gator) on Sep 26, 2011
Oops...#21: brett kildahl (bkildahl) on Jun 16, 2013
Great puzzle, Gator.#22: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Oct 27, 2013
great puzzle, Gator! fun solve!#23: Vaggelis Kamaris (evag7651) on Feb 7, 2017
