Really a great picture, and some "uncommon" logic required at the end. The best picture yet (of the ones I have soloved). Im glad I saved the 5 for qualityrating for pictures like this

This puzzle holds up very well, even as the database has grown. It's really a pretty good picture!

The inspiration for this puzzle was a tapestry that is hanging on the wall of my den. It depicts a knight on a rather undersized horse against what looks like the red ball of a japanese flag. I couldn't make the rider come out right, so was left with just the horse. The original tapestry is supposed to be a reproduction of the battle flag under which the peasant's republic of Dithmarschen fought off one of the many attempts by either Denmark or other German states to assert rule over them. My grandfather collected all sorts of Dithmarsche memorabilia and I ended up with a middle name of "Dithmar" in honor this tiny country that hasn't existed for five hundred years. My grandfather wasn't actually from Dithmarschen, though his wife's family was. I've always suspect that his patriotism for Dithmarschen was a sly cover-up of his utter lack of patriotism for the nation of Germany during World War II.

This is a great horse. After reading about your family's history, this is a great Dithmarschen horse! I love learning about new things.

I liked it. I didn't guess the image from the title, and I enjoyed the edge logic at the end.

Man, it's always neat to see a really low-numbered puzzle with an interesting story. Especially from the site's founder.

I agree, Andrew.
