Look at rows 1&2 in the upper right (3&5 respectively). The 3 can't go to the right of the 5. It will force the 5 to the left contradicting the 6 in row 1. There are several other areas of edge and affirmation logic.
#2: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Dec 9, 2011 [HINT]
after initial line logic i did edge logic on the 3 clue in r1 to get a dot in c20 (then line logic)
then edge logic on the 4 clue in r20 to get dots in c19-20 (then line logic)
then two-way (or affirmation) logic on the bottom 2 clue in c18 so that no matter whether it goes into r18 or r20, c16r16-18 are always black (then line logic)
then edge logic on the 6 clue in r20 (from the left side) to get a dot in c1 and then on that same 6 clue from the right side to make c5-7 black (but you cant place any dots to the right of there because the 4 could go somewhere in there)
then line logic to finish (make sure you get the dots in c14)

great solve with no guessing
also one of your better images too
nicely done

you beat me to it bug...glad i went (unnecessarily) wild on the two-way otherwise my hints would have been a copy of your's...since you and i are usually on the same page when it comes to solving approach.
#5: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Dec 9, 2011
(smile)
i dont understand your first two-way step though

Thanks, guys. A couple of questions if I may... How do I get a harder rating on a 20x20 than >2.5? What do you consider a quality image? That was pretty freehand, adding pixels when needed to make it solvable. My SGUSA puzzle, I attempted to make pretty darn good on the grid I chose. Any suggestions....?

I'm going to take a break. Between average and poor is not where I belong. Maybe we should rethink the rankings. This puzzle was rated below average in difficulty, and below average to poor in quality. I guess I have a thin skin. If one doesn't solve it, one shouldn't be able to rate it. Quality, I have no problem with. I am a terrible artist. Difficulty, I do. This is well above average in difficulty, As are most of my puzzles. I'll go back to solving.
#8: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Dec 10, 2011
dont worry about the ratings as they are usually far from accurate and mean very little on this site
take the comments as your guide
dont stop making puzzles because i especially enjoy them quite a bit, personally
i love the effort you put into making them fun to solve so that there is a challenge
just my opinion but i hope you take it into consideration as i am sure there are several others who enjoy them too

Bug is right Tom,ignore the ratings. I use to get discouraged by them, but the true puzzlers ,the ones who no the effort required to create a good puzzle both from a quality and difficulty standpoint will tell you how good it is. To my knowledge bugaboo doesn't create puzzles, but he does appreciate and recognizes good puzzles, and he will tell you honestly if it's good. There are too many people who screw around with the ratings for you to put much faith in them. Just keep making puzzles, don't be afraid to make bad ones, because you'll end up making great ones too. This puzzle here in my opinion is a great one,it's an awesome image, and too tough a solve for me,cause I suck at solving. Just cause i don't solve, shouldn't mean that i shouldn't be able to rate puzzles. When i rate a puzzle I always give them a 3 for difficulty, for me to be fair, and i only rate puzzles that i feel are a 4 or 5 for quality, however i comment on a lot of puzzles. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy your puzzles Tom,so please don't stop making them, you'll get use to the ratings. Just relax and have fun making them, and don't be put off by colour ones, they're fun to make too. Merry Christmas.:)

This is not only solvable but nice to solve!
Excellent puzzle! Ignore the ratings most people like huge boring to solve puzzles.
#12: Kadou (Kadou) on Dec 10, 2011
Good job Tom! IMO, this puzzle is above average in both quality and difficulty for a 20x20.
It might be better to use the description box for simply describing the final image rather than commenting on what you don't do or did! :^V

Great puzzle, Tom!

Like Kadou, I think this is above average in quality and difficulty. I found it to be almost TOO challenging, but I kept at it until I was able to finish. I truly enjoyed the result, which made it worth the effort put into the solving.

Nice. A hard image to bring across in one color. Very clear.
