red question mark? looks like this puzzle is in need of some hints (assume line logic between each step below):#2: Tom King (sgusa) on Dec 8, 2011
- EL in C20 to dot C20R5-12,19-20
- EL in C1 to dot C1R1-3,11-13
- EL in R1 to dot C2,3,9R1
- whether C2R14 or C2R20 are black, C1R15 is black
- EL in R20 to black C15,16R20
- whether C12R20 or C17R20 are black, C11R18 is black
- whether C16R6 or C19R6 are black, C16R7 is a dot
- if C16,17R2 are both black, C19 is violated, so dot them
- EL in C20 to dot C20R18
- LL to finish
nice challenge!
Thanks, David. It took 33 times to make it a decent image and solvable.#3: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Dec 9, 2011
Cool Tom, like it very much, no guessing, fun challenge! Thank you :)#4: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Dec 9, 2011
I hope business is as good as this puzzle Tom.:)#5: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Dec 9, 2011
Mal: "How's business?"#6: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Dec 9, 2011
Inara: "None of yours."
:) @ kristen. reminds me of something i just saw that said "hey, i found your nose...it was in my business again."#7: Al LaPointe (kancamagus) on Dec 9, 2011
excellent study in edge logic :)#8: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Dec 9, 2011
be careful with your coordinates dbouldin (in your 7th step i think you meant c16r7 is a dot instead of c16r17)#9: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Dec 9, 2011
that's possible bug...of course they're just hints, this way i don't give it all away ;P#10: Gator (gator) on Jul 13, 2012 [HINT]
(fixing it)
"- whether C12R20 or C17R20 are black, C11R18 is black"#11: Velma Jones (cj) on Jan 6, 2014
Instead of this step (as it verged on 3 moved ahead), I like:
if the 6 clue extends to R20C11-R20C12, this makes row 18 invalid (no place to put the 2 clue). So R20C17 must be black.
"- EL in C20 to dot C20R18"
I also don't understand how this one helps, but how about either R17C18 or R18C18 will be a dot, so R17C20 has to be black.
I'm still not done as I do not have R18C20 a dot like you did, but I cannot see how to make it a dot.
Couldn't get this one at all.#12: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Sep 20, 2017
Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by gator.#13: Gator (gator) on Sep 20, 2017 [HINT]
I still can't see David's last step, but how about this:#14: BlackCat (BlackCat) on May 2, 2018
R14C1-2 are going to be either both black or both dots. They cannot be one of each. Remember that and we will get back to that.
Assume the bottom 2 clue in C10 goes in R19-20C10. We are going to now see how this affects R14C1-2.
Given that R19C10 is black, then R19C1 is black, and R14C1 is a dot.
Given that R20C10 is black, then R20C2 is a dot, and R14C2 is black.
Since we already know that R14C1-2 cannot be one of each, the 2 clue cannot go in R19-20C10. These have to be dots.
It will solve with LL from there.
Given that is a lot to keep in your head, I'm tempted to mark this as deep lookahead; however, each step outlined is only looking 2 moves ahead. So I'll mark this as moderate for now.
David - if you can explain your last step, I really would like to hear it. I feel like I'm missing something obvious...
Nice job. No guessing. Nice images for so small a puzzle.#15: Rhinoceros (Rhino) on May 2, 2018
Wait, are you StealthGearUSA? Do you sell accessories for guns? How is that "sporting goods?"#16: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on May 3, 2018 [SPOILER]

Although it was fairly hard for a puzzle this size, I really enjoyed this one!
