Puzzle Description:

Man, this was tough to make solvable. I hope it didn;t turn out too easy.

#1: Tom King (sgusa) on Dec 3, 2011 [HINT]

I attempted to solve this so many times, and kept adding a pixel until I could solve it. My key was the top one in column 12. Eliminating it in rows 1&2 eliminates the 4 in r2 in c8-10. Smile logic at the end.
#2: Levi Ross (rhodyboy888) on Dec 3, 2011 [SPOILER]
I guessed but not sure if I had to. I didn't rate it as needs guessing and will defer to greater puzzling minds than mine. I love football.
#3: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Dec 3, 2011 [HINT]
No guessing needed, but it was delightfully tough, now that's what I'm talking about! Thank you Tom, I love your tricky puzzles :)
I solved it by eliminating space where the 3 could go in column 4, and I think the 2 in the same column or the 2 in the 3rd column, forget now, but's thats the area that got me through the puzzle without too much trouble. Then I finished with smile logic at the end, like you did.

Thanks. Levi & Marie-Louise. I had the image perfect. You could not solve the helmet. The base of the goalpost had to grow. It was really hard to save the majority of the integrity of the images to make it solvable. The football went from an outline with black laces to the negative of that. I had to add a pixel to the helmet that I really did not want to do. I had wasted enough time, and could solve it.

after line logic ends look at rows 12 and 13
you already have the 1 clues in those rows filled in (in c1) so the black clues in c6 each belong to the next 4 clue in both r12 and r13
they cant both extend to the left into c5 (only a 1 clue is left in c5) so at least one of them must extend into c7 so you can put a black in r13c7
more line logic
now that you have more dots in c3, do the same thing again in rows 12 and 13 (they cant both extend into c5 so at least one of them extends into c8 now (so you can dot all of the rest of c8 except for r12 and r13)
line logic gets all the rest now solved except for the smile logic at the end
no guessing

3 unique ways to solve it. That's pretty cool. I did not see Marz's or Bugs. I knew from previous attempts where I would go (that didn't change). I'll go back and try theirs. Thanks!
#7: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Dec 4, 2011 [SPOILER]
I love football too, nice puzzle Tom.Well Marz your certainly getting your fill of 20x20 B&W's. See how much we love you. Glad you got out on your bike, enjoy your summer girl.:)
#8: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Dec 4, 2011 [HINT]
this approach might be the same as one of the other descriptions, but i did this:

line logic
internal edge logic to dot C3,4R12
line logic
smile logic at end (C19-20R14-19)
#9: Joel Lynn (furface1) on Dec 4, 2011 [SPOILER]
Good image, Tom, and tricky solve. Yeah, the goalpost is a bit odd at the bottom, but the helmet is good, and the football seems right being dark with white laces.
#10: Tom King (sgusa) on Dec 4, 2011
David: That is how I solved it. Thanks, Aldege & Joel.
#11: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 4, 2011
Tom I think this is perfect the way it is! Three objects, all quite easily recognizable. And a fun solve. Well done!
#12: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Dec 4, 2011 [SPOILER]
Ask Alabama about the importance of a good kicker. :)
#13: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Dec 4, 2011
...just ask them using little words, because...well, you know...they're from Alabama.

:P
#15: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Dec 5, 2011
Found to be logically solvable by gator.
#16: Jota (jota) on Dec 5, 2011
To each it's own meaning, I kept see in a leaf (ball), a leave blower (helmet) and a twisted shovel!
#17: Syla Vims (syla) on Dec 19, 2011
i liked the challenge
#18: Judy Baumann (JudyBee) on Feb 29, 2020
Great title.
#19: Donald Clysdale (don) on Nov 16, 2020
Great puzzle! I have to admit I am amazed by all those who remember their moves to solve a puzzle. Do you solve it multiple times, write down your moves, or just remember? Reading all the hints afterwards, I did recognize David Bouldin's #8 as how I did it. Again, most pleasant puzzle.
#20: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 18, 2020
i usually write down my advanced logic moves if it seems like it's worth it...which depends heavily on whether someone has already given hints but also depends on the complexity and whether i've enjoyed the puzzle up to the point line logic runs out. i will also sometimes solve a puzzle a second time if i didn't track it the first time and it seems like it is needed. just hit or miss really, but i definitely don't keep moves in my head :)
