If you get stuck, check for opportunities for internal edge logic, it is needed in several places.#2: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 3, 2011
Wow, some people are quick to award that red question mark!#3: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 3, 2011
It now shows up as rated THE hardest B&W puzzle that has a unique solution. I know it takes a bit for the ratings to even themselves out, but I'm still amazed.#4: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 3, 2011 [HINT]
Though the difficulty has already dropped and there obviously isn't a ton of interest in this puzzle ;) I thought I'd do a solve guide. I line logic'ed a bunch of stuff and hit the hint and it said no...so that looks like a good place to start my explanation (as a reference to this starting point, rows 1-13 and columns 2-5,31-40 are complete, the 10 in R38 is placed completely and 8 of the 12 in R19):#5: larrry grizzard (gizzard) on Nov 4, 2011
- edge logic the 13 in R15 puts dots in C12,13,28,29,30R15
(line logic 12 blacks and 10 dots)
- edge logic the 4 in C29 puts dots in C29R17,18,26
(line logic 5 blacks and 8 dots)
- we know the blacks in C21,22R22 are either the first 2 or middle 4, either way C18R22 is a dot
(line logic to finish)
Nothing against the puz, David, it's just too big for my POS model computer. Anything bigger than 25's and it gets wacky and slow, I get frustrated and we both sulk in the corner.#6: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Nov 4, 2011
the image itself is fantastic David, great job.:)#7: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 4, 2011
larry, now that excuse loses a little something when you post a B&W 40x40 of your own on the same day ;)#8: larrry grizzard (gizzard) on Nov 4, 2011
thanks, aldege.
yeah, I can make them, but not solve them. I don't get it either.#9: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Nov 4, 2011
Sounds like me,lol, but it has nothing to do with my computer.:)#10: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 4, 2011 [SPOILER]

no guessing
no wonder i couldnt find a picture of this anywhere on the internet (i found info about the school tho)
Ok, I did it! Excellent puzzle David, took me some time and lots of care, I didn't have to look at your hints, I just did as much edge logic and extended edge logic as I could, and I got it, I am just a little proud of myself for sticking to it right now, I knew you wouldn't put a puzzle up that needed guessing. I love this one, thank you!!! Great image too :)#13: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Nov 5, 2011
Cool about the school David.:)#14: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 5, 2011
glad you all like it!#15: Jota (jota) on Nov 7, 2011
Did it with your hints! Nice one!#16: Vaggelis Kamaris (evag7651) on Dec 14, 2011
terrific. Logically solvable. a hard one indeed.#17: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Oct 21, 2016
thanks for a great time.
Tough, tough puzzle. I did give up and guess one time and used the hint feature multiple times. Awesome image and interesting enough to me to keep me going to finish it. Good job.#18: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Oct 22, 2016
thanks BC! ..and Jota and VK for that matter :) :P#19: derby (Derby) on Feb 4, 2019
Loved it. Completely logical. Excellent image#20: Velma Warren (Shiro) on Sep 26, 2019

:D#22: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Mar 19, 2021
Tough puzzle. Took me awhile.#23: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Apr 3, 2021
Found to be solvable by line and color logic alone by valerie.#24: RB (rb2013) on Jan 22, 2022 [HINT]
#23 is possibly a mistake, some non LL (e.g. edge logic) is necessary to tackle the puzzle.#25: Jota (jota) on Jan 22, 2022
No, I don't think Valerie would make that mistake.
