i dont like that rule because it is not child Bs fault if child A threw it poorly
we played where the thrower ended up in the middle if the middle person intercepted it

I played it the same way bugaboo did and yes Sarah that's the only form of monkey in the middle that i'm aware of.lol.

THX Teresa,Joel Lynn and Teresa if you don't mind my asking,either your age or where about you live or were born that you have never heard of monkey in the middle.My wife Niki is familiar with it,and she is 31and lives and was born in Canada,or was it just called keep away.

I'm 64, grew up in Denver, Colorado, and was even a Girl Scout. We sang lots of songs but didn't play many group games. On the playground at school, I stayed away from games like this, as I really did not like bully games. I had enough of bullying, growing up in the middle of 6 brothers. :-)

The name of the game varies with region. In the United States, the descriptive name Keep Away seems to prevail, while Canadian children commonly refer to the game as either Pig in the Middle (Western Canada) or Monkey in the Middle (Eastern Canada, parts of New England, and parts of the Midwest). In the UK and Australia, the name Piggy in the Middle is used (almost) exclusively. The game is also common in Turkey under a name which translates to Rat in the Middle, in Denmark where it is known as what translates into Butter blob, in the netherlands they call it "Aap in het Midden" [lit: "Monkey in the Middle"] and Silly Johnny in Poland.
While the name Keep Away is self-explanatory, the origin of some of the other titles are less clear. Monkey in the Middle is likely to have arisen because the middle player jumps and waves his arms around like a monkey or ape. The names Piggy in the Middle and Pickle in a Dish are of unknown derivation.
"Pickle in the middle" derives from a baseball game... where the runner is "caught between bases" (he is in a "pickle")! (Wikipedia)
