This isn't a good puzzle but I wanted to show you the apartment. The blue outline is the fence. Two tunnels go under the fence; the back one opens where the blackberry bushes are and there are little paths that goes out into the pasture. The front door opens into Mr B.s front yard. Just inside the front door was a room with fresh Romaine lettuce leaves -- I had picked the lettuce that day for Mr. B. Next to that room was another room filled with cracked corn (in red). I hadn't reached the other rooms when suddenly Mama Rat and her babies jumped out of the house. Architectually, the house was amazing. The rooms were dug in rectangular shapes with well-defined walls. So Mama Rat had not only been eating Mr. B's food at night, she was stealing and storing it as well. This is the same Mama Rat that ate my dryer vent hose so she could eat cat food.

This is perfect, Sarah. I wonder if they all went up to Mr. B's to watch TV at night. I bet Wheel Of Forage was their favorite show.

So, are they all sharing the quarters now?

Before Mr B moved there, there was a pen for ducklings. We are surrounded by crop fields and our yard is lower so we get all the run-off water when it rains. Once there was a huge rainstorm and we were not at home. When we arrived home, the ducklings were happily swimming around inside the pen. The farmer who owns the land next to Mr B's house bulldozed (is that a word?) his field, changing the contours of it so more water came our way. I moved Mr B into a doghouse on the carport and surrounded the doghouse with bales of hay. Guess who moved in under the doghouse; there was a pallet type stand built under the doghouse by the previous owner. Mama rat! Mr B and Mama Rat must have gotten along; they were togther for 1 1/2 years.
Jota, are you sorry you asked? lol. I always say too much in comments.

bugaboo, it's just where Mama Rat lived. It's of the storage rooms that she put Mr.B's food and the tunnels she dug. I call it Mr. B's basement because Mama Rat lived under Mr. B 's house. I know it's a bad puzzle.

It's not a bad puzzle Sarah but a continuation of your saga of Mr. B. Sometimes you need to be able to have a picture in your head and you have given us that. Not sure I need to have a picture of Mama Rat though!
#14: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Mar 17, 2011

This is a delightful puzzle - both the image and the story! And of course, everyone's comments. What a funny bunch you are. Sarah, you could write a book.
