i did the same edge logic on column 2 and column 18 but then i used smile logic at the very top in rows 1/2 which helped me finish this#7: Jota (jota) on Feb 21, 2011
i appreciate what you are trying to do and it almost worked except for one thing: her puzzle had only 1s in the corners where the 18s might intersect, FORCING you to only solve the 18s one way (the same way smile logic would always result) whereas your first row has a 3 providing the possibility that smile logic might not work
if you make this puzzle have a dot in row 1 column 19 and THEN if it solves differently than how using smile logic would then you will have proven your point

what an annoyingly difficult puzzle. had to guess and then go back and try something different etc... Logic helped after the guessing, but really, had to guess which direction to go on several spots in order to continue on. I don't know if it was fun or not, because I was so exasperated while trying to complete! Fun & tough solve. I am always leery of "I'll bet I know what this is" logic :) (like the 18s in this and #12341), to the point of practically making myself re-prove smile logic every time I come across it!
