Puzzle Description:
Winklepicker is a style of pointy shoe or boot. Where did that word come from? Winkle is an English word for a water snail cooked and served in the shell as a delicacy, and one would need something to pick the snail out of it's shell. Reminiscent of medieval footwear worn by jesters and today by pop stars, the feature which gives both the boot and shoe their name is the very sharp and quite long pointed toe.

I knew that it was some kind of water-ish creature, so my guess was one who picked them out of rock pools, haha. Interesting, thank you! :)#6: Rich Garrard (KCRich) on Jul 27, 2010

Nope. I wear pretty girlie sandals every day. Unless I have to do a training, then I wear flats.#9: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Jul 27, 2010 [SPOILER]
Usually found in England, a winklepicker is the wee fairy who chooses which snails to send up the flower stems in the garden. Only one winkle is chosen in this manner per day so one hardly ever sees a winkle actually on a flower stem.#10: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Jul 27, 2010

I would increase your vocabulary with a puzzle for shmekldeker, but modesty forbids it.
