Puzzle Description:

It's David Tennant from Doctor Who. Or it's supposed to be, anyway this is my first real face puzzle so I don't know how well it turned out. You may need to guess to solve it. Source image: http://www.famouswhy.com/pictures/people/david_tennant_thumb_small.jpg

halfway through i used edge logic on the 6 clue in column 9 which let me line solve again until about 90 % was done and then i couldnt see a logical way to continue

Good hard puzzle.

I also got stuck about 90% of the way through, around the nose/mouth at the bottom. Good image, tough challenge.

any help gator? (or any of you few others who didnt guess)
#5: Gator (Gator) on Jul 13, 2010 [HINT]
I used the same edge logic on column 9.

After more line logic (not sure if I got it all or not), I used affirmation logic in column 35. No matter where you try to place the 4 clue R30C34 and R31C34 will be black.

It got really hard to find any thing now.

Look at row 32. The 2 clue can be finished with either R32C9 or R32C11, but not both. This means either R27C9 or R27C11 will have to be black. This enables us to dot most of the rest of row 27. More line logic.

I'll have to come back to this one later. I do not see another move at the moment.

gator this was still in my saved folder
any luck on finding a way to solve it

After doing what Gator said, I looked at R37C21 and R37C22. If the second 2 is not partially in one of those spaces, then R40C21 and R40C22 both have to be black, which messes up that row, because there can only be a 1. You can fill in all of R37 except C20-C23 because of that. Then, if R38C22 is a dot, then R38C19 is black, and both R37C20 and R37C22 are dots. This makes the second 2 in R37 impossible, so R38C22 must be black.

The next step is more complicated. Assume that R37C21 is a dot (I'm going to disprove this). That means that R37C23 is black, but R36C23 is a dot, so R37C23 is part of the 1 (because R36C21 has to be a dot as well). This forces R41C18 to be black, which makes R41 to the right of it (until the 9) dots, which messes up the bottom 5 in C21. This means that R37C21 is black. This is probably looking forward too many steps to be counted as logically solvable, but I thought I'd let you guys know.

Next, if the 4 in C24 is in R33-36, R35-36C21 are dots, but so are R35-36C18, which makes R41C18 and R41C21 both black, which is impossible. Therefore, the 4 is not in R33-36C24. Follow this up with some line logic and simple edge logic.

After that, there are a few more spaces I filled in using various "if this then that" logic to mostly place dots. I still haven't finished it, but hopefully the logic I've used is correct and hopefully I can figure out more with time. Hope this helped someone!

Yeah, I had to guess quite a bit on this one. The fun thing (to me) about David Tennant is how his nose is crooked. If you watch one of his Doctor episodes, you'll notice that he never looks directly to camera. He'll have his nose pointed directly to camera, but his face will still be off to one side. :)

Great puzzle and fantastic image. Thanks

I suppose logically unsolvable. Solved after a few reverts in the last line.
#11: Philip (Philip) on Apr 26, 2024 [HINT]
I got to about the same point as Diana's hints, and from there:
EL on C23 (look at C21): C23R36-37 are white

EL on R41 (look at R40 and R42): R41C29 is white

EL on 5 in R45 (look at R44 and R42): R45C19-20 are white

LL to finish! Go team!
