Easy guessing required - once the idea of the puzzle was clear it was straight forward. Very moving image Tom.

I agree, easy to guess. But guessing is guessing, even when it seems obvious. Visual logic is not true logic, when it comes to solving these. But interesting solve, just the same.

This puzzle requires more of a whole puzzle approach. This puzzle can be logically tackled, just not in the traditional way.

After the initial line solving, notice that there are 8 5 clues that need to be placed in either the middle (rows 7-11) or bottom (rows 13-17) sections. Also notice that the 1 clues in the middle and bottom sections dictate that 4 of the 5 clues have to be in the middle section and 4 have to be in the bottom section.

Now look at row 8. We need to place 4 3 clues. Notice that no matter where a 3 clue is placed, it will cross either 1 or 2 5 clues. But since we are only allows to cross 4 5 clues, we need to exclude the places where 2 5s are cross with one 3 clue. If you would try to place a 3 clue in R8C18-R8C20, it would cross 2 5 clues. So we know that R8C20 is a dot. You can now do some more line solving.

Using the same logic, we can see that R8C15 will also have to be a dot. A little more line solving.

Now look at the bottom section, and notice that R14C13 will have to be a dot, otherwise we would have 5 5 clues on the bottom. The rest will solve normally from there.

So, based on this, do we call this guessing or not?

I just took a trip to France in July, and part of the trip was visiting this very place. It was indeed an awe-inspiring place and a very emotional experience. Thanks for the puzzle (and the memories). :)

your welcome, sdubois

Just found this one via Random and agree with Gator. Noticing the 5s vs the 1s was exactly how I solved it.
