The "5" in R7 is restricted#2: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Nov 4, 2011 [HINT]
Better be careful about making old jokes about Dinah! ;)#3: Nancy (nbarsi) on Nov 4, 2011
I used edge logic in the lower left to get started.
Clever and enjoyable#4: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Nov 4, 2011 [HINT]
I started this with extended edge logic on r9.#5: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Nov 4, 2011
Look at the 4,3 and compare to the 3,1 in r8. Notice that since there is no block of three or more 1 clues in the columns, the 4 must be under the 3, at least in part, and r9's 3 must be under the 1.
Now do edge logic on the 3 in r9. if it were to go all the way right, it would be under the 1 (c12), and it would also be under the 3 (c10). The 3 in r8 would continue left across two 1s (c8-9). The 4 (which we know *has to be* under the 3) would be left out in the cold.
Thus the 3 in r9 cannot go all the way to the right and r9c12 is white. The rest solves with line logic.
great solve#6: Nancy Kay (joyfulnancy) on Nov 5, 2011
no guessing
I agree, no guessing#7: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 5, 2011
Fun solve. Clever title.#8: Jota (jota) on Nov 5, 2011 [HINT]
I tried placing the 5.#9: Avgvstvs (Avgvstvs) on Nov 7, 2011 [HINT]
No need for such effort. Edge logic on R9, starting at the right corner, is enough.#10: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Jan 17, 2012
Found to be logically solvable by gator.#11: Gator (gator) on Jan 17, 2012
Nice puzzle.#12: Kadou (Kadou) on Mar 14, 2012 [HINT]
Agree with #9. All that is required to solve is a dot in r9c12.#13: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Dec 16, 2019
Re #9 & #12 - there are several steps needed to show that that square is a dot, making it deep lookahead by that method.#14: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Apr 28, 2020 [HINT]
of the possible places that the 2 in C11 can go it will always trigger part of the 4 in C10 and that 4 can never extend to R9...so C10R9 is a dot. LL to finish.#15: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Apr 29, 2020 [HINT]
Another along those lines: No matter where the 4 in r9 goes it will trigger the 5 in r7. The farthest that 5 can go to the right is c9, so r7c10-12 must be white.
LL to finish.
