very unique, i enjoyed this one
#2: stacey howell (skh111) on Dec 29, 2009
quite fun to solve! I thought it was some sort of safety pin/sickle combo until I read the description, but now it's perfectly visible. Thank you.
#3: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Dec 29, 2009
This was a pain in the butt. I have no idea how to solve this. Hint, gator?
#4: Joel Lynn (furface1) on Dec 29, 2009
Sort of looked like some type of a corkscrew to me, which sort of goes with the title!
#5: Gator (Gator) on Dec 29, 2009
#3 - Not sure. It is line logic solvable, so where are you stuck?
#6: Gator (Gator) on Dec 29, 2009
Thanks ant, stacey, and Joel.

Joel - I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. :)
#7: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 29, 2009
I, like Adam, am stuck and don't know what to do. I only have about 15 spaces filled in, and 5 dots in R7. I went through each row, counting and looking for clues. Maybe I missed something, I don't know.
#8: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Dec 30, 2009
This may be logically solvable, but I sure can't do it by advanced logic, let alone line logic.

I have about 25 pixels placed, with about half of them in the upper left corner area.
#9: Gator (Gator) on Dec 30, 2009 [HINT]
I'll take this one from the top as I'm not sure where you all are stuck.

With the 3 "7 6" clues (column 2, column 9, row 2), you can place 3 blacks. Line solving off those 3 cells lets you have 5 blacks and 5 dots in row 7, and 2 blacks in column 7.

Because of the dots in row 7, you can now place one black in column 19.

Now focus on rows 16 and 17. You can get one black on row 16 and 3 blacks on row 17.

Now look at column 10 and you can place 4 dots.

Now looking at row 2, 6 more blacks can be placed. More dots and blacks then on rows 1 and 3. Because of the new dots on row 1, R1C5 is black now. A lot more simple line logic mostly in the upper left part now.

You can now also place more blacks in column 9 and one black in column 2. More line solving and notice that R8C6 and R8C7 have to be dots. Now the line solving should be rather easy.

Hopefully that's enough.

It was tricky, but I did it without guessing
#11: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Dec 30, 2009
I must have just been too tired last night when I started this. I just missed one of the 7 clues. It solved nicely today.
#12: Gator (Gator) on Dec 30, 2009
#11 - My first reaction to your comment last night was "No. Work on it again when you've had some rest." :)
#13: Jan Wolter (jan) on Dec 31, 2009 [HINT]
I think if you get hopelessly stuck on this one, you should be able to get out just by hitting the "L" key, which will pop up an arrow marking a line you should look at harder.

The puzzle is 100% line solvable, but it takes some hard looking to find the way forward sometimes. I think part of the problem is that it is a Gator puzzle, so one naturally expects that one will need some subtle logic trick to get ahead, so you don't look as hard as you should for plain old solvable lines.
#14: Leigh Cousins (pog) on Jan 2, 2010
I had to restart this several times and eventually something clicked and it suddenly solved easily. I filled in the obvious bits and then it was just a matter going round in circles filling a square or two each round until it was done.
#15: Vicki Woods (vickicwoods) on Jan 2, 2010
I had to use edge logic. I started in each of the four corners and then some. It was very enjoyable, though, once I got going. I, too, fell into the thinking that it was a Gator puzzle, so maybe it was a little too hard for me. You intimidate me a little. I think you are a genius with this stuff. I'm glad you explained it. I saw it right away when you did.
#16: Jota (jota) on Jan 3, 2010
Jan is this "L" key function new? It's fantastic and I never knew about it. Thanks!
#17: Jan Wolter (jan) on Jan 3, 2010
Yeah, it's kind of something that I tossed in one day as an experiment. I kind of like it, though it needs some refinement and perhaps even a button. I'd also like to have a "check" function that tells you if any squares are colored incorrectly, and then offers to automatically undo back to the first point where you marked a square incorrectly.
#18: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 3, 2010
How do you use it? I have tried clicking on "L" when solving a puzzle, but nothing happens. Are there certain criteria for when it will work, or am I just exempt?
#19: Jota (jota) on Jan 3, 2010
I just press the "L" key while solving and a beautiful purple arrow appears by the row or column where I should be looking harder, it's great!
#20: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 3, 2010
You are privileged. I am demoted.
#21: Jota (jota) on Jan 3, 2010
No, maybe it's because I'm a Mac!
#22: Jan Wolter (jan) on Jan 4, 2010
The "L" command should work for everyone. Your mouse must be over the puzzle grid for any of the key commands to work. It should either display a purple arrow in the margins of the puzzle (where it normally displays the counts when you hover over a painted cell) or pop up a "no hints available" message.
#23: ant (agrest272) on Jan 4, 2010
Adam, for me it only works on this puzzle. Try clearing this puzzle's solution and giving it a shot.
#24: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 4, 2010
Nope. It doesn't work. Oh well. Luckily I can get by without it.
#25: Joseph Jessen (gijoex2) on Jan 9, 2010
I don't know what y'all's problem is. I got it down straight away, although it took looking at Gator's puzzle description for me to actually know what I was looking at. Thanks, Gator, for a neat puzzle.
#26: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 10, 2010 [HINT]
Ah, I finally solved this one. Like Leigh, I went around in circles marking one or two at a time. Very clever, Gator. Please make some more! :-)
#27: Gator (Gator) on Jan 11, 2010
Thanks all!

Teresa - I'm glad you got through it. :) I might be able to get a new one out this week. We'll see...
#28: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Aug 12, 2010
fun lls puzzle
#29: Ailsa Hebert (bazette3) on Nov 19, 2011
It's totally solvable by edge logic but cant remember where I started. I thik it was the top left corner and got the dot in that corner then did the 5 down. Must have just gotten lucky because I thought it was one Gator's easier ones. Great puzzle...thanks!!

#30: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Dec 5, 2011
I did it! Without any hints either! Yay!

Brilliant puzzle Gator :)
#31: Gator (gator) on Dec 5, 2011
Thanks!
#32: BlackCat (BlackCat) on May 18, 2020
Very clever. No guessing needed. Nice design even without the meaning.

#36: Gator (gator) on Dec 12, 2022
Norma - will do. :)
