How did you place the 3 in the second column? I was able to place one dot in R14C2 via edge logic, but with only 1's going up from there, I couldn't place that 3 without looking several moves ahead.
With only 1's in rows 9-12, the 3 and the 7 from columns 2 and 3 can't both go in those rows (neither may go there or one of them may). No matter which way it ends up, C3R7 is always black.
Internal edge logic on C7 let me place a few more pixels. Then I was stuck.
The "bare" portion was a whole other story. I had to use smile logic.
Good one! I placed the 7's first.#4: ant (agrest272) on Dec 13, 2009

funny puzzle, glad you did it!#7: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Dec 13, 2009
difficult to work...extended edge logic worked...but I'm still unsure whether that's technically guessing.
By the way, the 3 COULD go toward the bottom and the 7 still work up higher (maybe not if you continue it more than a move or so ahead, but that is what is defined as guessing).#8: Gator (Gator) on Dec 13, 2009 [HINT]
I would love a "gatortail" (gator's solving detail) on this one. :-)

Back to your first paragraph, gator... I was able to dot R13C3 because 2 moves ahead it made C3 have 8 in a row, not because it didn't allow me to place the 4 in C4.#10: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 16, 2009 [SPOILER]
But at the end, when there was nothing else to do, I used smile logic. I guess it doesn't technically work, but it was the only thing I could do.
I still say guessing.

what a challenge#14: Jota (jota) on Apr 26, 2012
i did laugh at this puzzle
just like most of you i couldnt solve the last part logically
C2R14 and C3R14 are dots so C3R7 is black LL for the 7 in R7.#15: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Apr 26, 2012
C14R8 is a dot. C7R12, R133, R14 are dots.
If the first 2 in R15 went in C4and 5, the 7 in C3 had to go down which is not possible, two more dots.
C3R13 has to be a dot, same with C3R12, 11 and 10 or the 3 in C1 could not be placed. LLS will give you the bear head.
C13R8 is a dot or C10 will be impossible, that gives you the bottom.
What do you think?
the only real question is whether or not your last "step" is 2 moves ahead or 3 moves ahead
it is borderline
