Does anyone else remember this from required reading in high school? I didn't have to read it because our English teacher read it to us in class. I don't think she was spoiling us. I think she knew that was the only way to make sure EVERYONE in class had the benefit of experiencing this delightful classic.

I didn't know that story. I thought I did know where the title was coming from however. There is a short story by Isaac Asimov which I haven't re-read for a few decades, so my memory may be a bit off. In it, there was a remote sect of monks who believed that the purpose of the universe was to list the "Nine Billion Names of God" (the title of the story).
