Are these laws actually enforced?
#2: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 25, 2018
I seriously doubt it. We often hear of crazy laws that are still on the books that were enacted sometime in the distant past with no one knowing the reason behind them or why they are still on the books. In AZ it's illegal for donkeys to sleep in bathtubs.

Hahahaha! That's so great! In a state in my area, it is illegal to walk your pet giraffe across the street. I am on the east coast of the U.S. They aren't exactly native.

Reminds me of an old story that most of you have probably heard by now in one form or another. But for what it's worth: My elderly neighbor was sitting on his from porch tearing paper into small bits. Curious, I ask him what he was doing. "I'm keeping the giraffes away." "Giraffe?" I asked. "They're no giraffes around here." He answered "Works, doesn't it,"

Is this a new law? The 21st century equivilent of belling the cat?
#6: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 26, 2018
The article doesn't say, but it's probably quite old.

Surely a light on the collar would be more sensible. I can't imagine how a light would ever *stay* on a cat's tail.
#8: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 26, 2018
I tried to research it further but I can't find any details.

I would imagine that this, if it actually happened, would have been a simple typo of "car". The amusing nature of the mistake would have given the publicity that gave it staying power as a story. (Or its virality if you go in for such dank memes.)

It would definitely be amusing to watch the lights streaking all over the place, though. Our big, tough cat Raven freaks out if he gets a piece of tape on him, racing around the house to get away from it.

I visited quite a few sites which cited this law. One said: One state law, supposedly still on the books in Sterling, states that a pet cat, if loose, must have a tail light!

If the word pet is actually mentioned in the law then it would be about cats. But cars make more sense as the first cars didn't have tail lights which created problems. My dad had exquisite hand writing in a style no longer used today and his r's were quite elaborate and I can see how a mistake could be made.

But what if I WANT to put a tail light on my pet car?
#12: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 26, 2018
I haven't a clue. About the only advice I can offer is good luck with that. :)

:p

=^-^=

This seems to be the extent of their laws on cats:
https://library.municode.com/co/sterling/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIICICO_CH4AN_ARTIIICA

No tail lights mentioned. There is a section on redemption of confined cats, but no mention as to the prizes received.
#15: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 26, 2018
Skimming a bit through other sections, there didn't seem to be much in the way of ordinances from earlier days so maybe they went through and cleaned house. I found a site that supposedly would link you to the original ordinance. It, too, quoted the cat tail law, but the link sent me to the same site as Joe's link. So I suppose it could have been there at one time.

Must have been cute.

I'm with Joe. Too many bureaucrats can't even spell "car."

Here in our area, you aren't allowed to park your alligator on the sidewalk. I live in the Great Northwest, so while an alligator may like our temperate rainforest WATER, it's reptilian body would find many days just too challenging to move! LOL
#20: Koreen (mom24plus) on Feb 6, 2018
***I know I do, and I'm native!***
#21: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Feb 6, 2018
It should be illegal to park your pet alligator anywhere! :)

In Connecticut, it is illegal to "take" squirrels with dynamite.
