Comet is the actual image, not a meteor. The movie is a recent one. However, a comet is not a central part of the movie, just a recurrent link (it recurs somewhat more obviously in the book).

Bingo! Julia, your absolutely nothing prize is on its way - it is tied to the leg of the homing chicken which is busy running in circles to get up to speed.

The comet was a theme through the story - the central character in each era had a comet tattoo. Each one also saw an account of their predecessor (journal, letters, book or movie dramatization), each had some sort of contact with cannibalism, and each had a feeling of connection with the others before and after.

I tried to suggest that reincarnation/connection by putting a white comet inside the black one in the puzzle.

Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by infrapinklizzard.
