kinda...2 things in there...one has to do with water. and the other is a what? figure out the 2 things and put em together... very very well-known book. hell, you could look up most popular novels of all time and I bet it makes the top 10

come on bahabro give people more than a few minutes at least to guess before posting links or giving the answer

There are multiple schools of thought. I would give it about a day with multiple guesses before hints. Some complain that this is too long a process. Some give the answer in the description which negates guessing... Kurt has the attitude of a 2 year old on Christmas Day ;)

but you know you don't have to click also. people have a choice.... ok, new rule. no hints for at least a day...no answers for 2. gives everyone a chance...

I had the same dilemma a few years ago with my "Close-up" series. I wasn't sure when to post the answer. I tried giving it in the first comment as a spoiler, but anyone would see it as soon as they clicked on "View and Make Comments" after solving the puzzle (because all spoilers and hints are disabled once the puzzle is solved). Then I tried posting the answer as a comment about a day later, but many people who solve puzzles never go back and check comments later (regardless of whether they actual ever post anything or not), so they would never be able to see what the actual answer was. Finally I decided to created a forum topic where I posted the answer that same day, and I said so in each puzzle I created. That way people could post their guess in the comment section without accidentally seeing the correct answer too soon, and if they just wanted to see the answer right away (and not guess) they could go to that forum topic and not have to wait a day to find out. No matter what, though, you will not be able to please everyone, regardless of what you try and do.

I liked Kurt's idea of providing a link you can look at or not. So far I watch the direction the guesses are taking and start dropping small clues if the guesses are to far afield.

ah, people can go with the new rules... if they're that interested in knowing, they'll come back and find out. bug's right. wait....give everyone a chance. people have a tendency to be online at diff times... if the late-nite crew still has a chance at it, they deserve to guess. link can come after a day at least...

The closest I came was a certain John Updike series...

I got Fountainhead as well, after some thinking. I didn't even click the link, which I think is a fine method, especially if you add a disclaimer "don't follow the link until you're done guessing!"
