Puzzle Description:

Not surprising it would be a car. The 2013 Corvette brings back the famed 427 cu.in. engine. The Corvette was born in 1953,so it is 60 yrs old. Americans should be proud of this and many other cars that have been produced in the USA.

The United States saw a lot of great cars disappear when our friends across the Pacific started flooding the market with much cheaper cars that were produced by poorly paid workers. I'm especially glad that Chevrolet has endured. A friend of mine fulfilled a dream of his life when he was able to purchase a 1956 Bel Air to restore.

Our next door neighbours had an early 70s Corvette that they had bought new. They drove it every summer and garaged it every winter. They had it when we moved in in 1983 and still had it when we moved away in 2007.

A 1973 Chevy Biscayne was our first new car after driving beaters for some years. We had a newborn then, and wanted a safer car for her. Eventually she and her younger sister and brother learned to drive in that car. By then we called it Opie (O.P. - short for Old Paint). In 1997 we drove (limped) it under its own steam to the auto recycling yard.

great job, Al!

love the stories! what was your first car, Al? My Dja dja used to buy cars, take em apart down to each last piece, clean em up, and re-sell. Pops used to remember one in particular that he'd mention time and time again. A Studebaker...don't know the year. My first was a Nova I bought for $500. Every chance I had the time or money, I'd do a little more to soup it up or fix body work. Funny part, is I didn't know squat about motors or trannies and learned as I went. Nothing like taking apart your first motor and re-building...Fun fun! thank God they gave you a little room. I coulda had room to nap under the hood next to the in-line 6....now everything's computerized and jammed in there so tight. takes the fun outta it

Twelve years ago I was able to fulfill my dream when I purchased my 1958 Dodge. It was an original car that was refreshed but not restored. I have enjoyed that car for twelve yrs,and continue to enjoy it. We drive it about 2000 miles every year. She is starting to show some wear now,but she still looks great and drives like a dream. I want Niki to put my ashes in her somewhere when I die.lol.:)

Thx Kurt,my first car was a 1962 Plymouth Savoy with a slant6 engine and a 3 on the tree transmission. I paid $250.00 for it and drove her hard. When I bought it I was 17. I didn't know how to drive a standard, but I drove it off the lot with no problems until I had to stop at a stop sign. I stalled it 13 times, until I was able to drive it again, but I quickly figured it out. I loved that car.:)

And then there is the sort of reverse of the problem of jerky starts and that is jerky stops. I drove a 5 speed Nissan pickup for several years which I traded for a car with auto transmission and jerked to quite a few sudden stops trying to find the clutch with my left foot only to find the brake.

hahaha

Lol,yes that's always a problem. It's fun if you own one of each, you find yourself confused a lot. Our 58 Dodge does not have seatbelts and when I get in it I find myself reaching for a belt that's not there, lol.:)

I feel sorry for people who never drove a manual shift. I grew up in a small very hilly town in AZ. My brother made sure that(among other things) I could hill-hold the car with the clutch at a stop sign on a steep incline before he would let me apply for my license.

Really fun puzzle, Aldege!

Me too, Norma. I learned to drive stick shift in the hilly suburbs of Denver, on an old yellow '50 Ford. Good times.

My oldest brother was a member of the original Corvette Club way back when (50+ years ago). He built his own. Still a proud owner/club member.

Hey, Kurt, I had a Nova too - a V8. Loved that power. Vroommmm!

Loved this puzzle! I prefer to drive a stick. My favorite car was a little blue Mazda Miata convertible...it matched my husband's white one. Lol, how much fun we had driving those around!
