shoulda looked up and noticed the tree

Can you describe what we're supposed to be looking at? Or is he seeing stars after running into a tree?

If I squint at it, I can sort of see a person lying down with head to the lower left, and a tree trunk running up the center.

I may be totally wrong. An explanation from the creator is definitely in order.

I can't even figure out if we're looking at the white or the black.

Maybe this is the view from within the tree looking out.

looks a little like leafs seen from below.

i dont have a clue and i didnt rate it because how can this puzzle be rated at all on quality when no one even knows what it is supposed to be?

I see in the top right corner what looks like a girl walking a la Frankenstein style,heading east.:)

Thanks for the puzzle. As most here know, I don't really care about the image, rather the challenge. This was a fun puzzle, but I am guessing Joel has the correct guess.
