peek at solution solve puzzle
quality: difficulty: solvability: line logic only
Puzzle Description:
HINT: I've given you twice as much information as you need to solve this.
#1: Tom King (sgusa) on Jan 1, 2012
Brian: Thanks for the puzzle. You could give me ten times the information, and I will never be able to solve it. Spatial and code reasoning are not a strongsuit of mine (probably nothing is, but I am extremely weak in these areas). Also, if it is obvious, you can just hit me over the head with a two by four...#2: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Jan 1, 2012 [SPOILER]
To give a hint, but hopefully not give it fully away, it should look kind-of like a butterfly.#3: Michelle Jones (lizzieb4041) on Jan 1, 2012
Very clever! I don't think I would have figured it out without your twice as much information hint though.#4: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Jan 1, 2012 [SPOILER]
No Tom. I've given you exactly twice as much information as you need.#5: Tom King (sgusa) on Jan 2, 2012
Too literal I guess. Exactly twice, I will look at a mirror...#6: Tom King (sgusa) on Jan 2, 2012
Still no clue....#7: Nancy (nbarsi) on Jan 2, 2012 [SPOILER]
I still have no clue either. I know you have to fill a 4x5 space (duh)and I am guessing you need to fill in 15 blacks(?) but in what pattern I haven't the foggiest.#8: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jan 2, 2012
I'm stumped.#9: Claudia (clau_bolson) on Jan 2, 2012
I know it because I've seen it somewhere else, but it's very difficult to know what it is from a pbn drawing.#10: Susan Duncan (medic25733) on Jan 2, 2012
I don't have a clue either. I hope you are going to give us the answer at some point.#11: Larry Horn (pbn123) on Jan 2, 2012 [HINT]

When it comes to me, I can't get too much information.#13: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Jan 2, 2012 [SPOILER]
Excellent clue Larry. Take away or cover up half of each symbol.#14: Alicia Snyder (prinny) on Jan 2, 2012 [SPOILER]
Yea, if it weren't for Larry's clue, I would totally be stumped. CLEVER!!#15: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jan 2, 2012
Ahh, I figured it would be something much easier to interpret in non-pixellated form. Now I'll have to take a look at the others.#16: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 2, 2012
I was stumped until I noticed each symbol was symmetrical. Then I figured it out. Clever and most enjoyable.#17: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 2, 2012
Tom gave a good clue in comment #5. :-)#18: Joel Lynn (furface1) on Jan 2, 2012
I got it after Brian's comment #4. Good one, Brian!#19: Gary Webster (glwebste) on Jan 3, 2012 [SPOILER]
I remember this one from puzzle books, math books. I got it while getting the 4's.#20: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Jan 25, 2012 [SPOILER]
Tom's comment #2 about a 2 by 4 described only one of the elements of the series.#21: Kadou (Kadou) on May 10, 2012 [SPOILER]
The answer is 88!#22: Beth Briggs (YodaTrophy) on May 16, 2012
Very clever!#23: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Oct 17, 2016
Is the answer 88, or just 8? Is 88 twice what it should be? Is the 55 upside down? I'm glad I solved this so late in the game, because even with all the clues it took a while for the penny to drop. (And after I solved the first two parts, I was thinking "they aren't letters of the alphabet, they aren't numbers. lol!)#24: Andrew Schultz (blurglecruncheon) on Nov 21, 2019 [SPOILER]
I thought the 3rd-from-right symbol was a Russian character at first. This was fun. The one to the left looked like an M with a line, and the one to the right looked like a space invader. Another looked like a heart, so I ws wondering--cards?#25: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Nov 21, 2019
I got it, though.
Wow. I feel that this should be the type of thing that I am good at figuring out, but even with all the hints I have *no* clue.#26: Joanne Firla (JoFirla) on Nov 21, 2019 [SPOILER]
It is the numbers 1 through 7. If you only look at the right half of each symbol, you can see the numbers. The left half is each number mirrored. (backwards 1 through 7) Hope that helps, Valerie.#27: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Nov 21, 2019
Thanks Joanne! Once you wrote that, it totally "popped" for me. Neat!#28: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Nov 21, 2019
(That should have been *right* up my alley. I have no idea why I couldn't see it. :-S )
I think I made a few of these series puzzles#29: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Sep 1, 2020
Don't know, but fun to solve.#30: Gaming Bagel (oof.com) on Sep 1, 2020
Classic puzzle, but I didn't realize what it was until I finished it. The only reason I got it was because as a puzzle lover, I've seen this clever puzzle before. Either way, good job.#31: BRASH ATAOM (BRASHatAOM) on Dec 13, 2022 [SPOILER]
The thing that almost stumped me is that the 5x5 blank area at the right end, presumably where one would enter the answer, is not quite wide enough to depict a doubled 8....#32: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Dec 13, 2022
That is true. I didn't mean to mislead. People prefer puzzles that have a multiples of 5 grid sizes.
