Now I have "Dear Prudence" stuck in my head. :)
#3: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Sep 27, 2011
i found this one very challenging
was it actually that hard or did i just miss something easier?
#4: Minnie Fuerstnau (m.fuerstnau) on Sep 27, 2011
Ditto, bugaboo; thanks for making me feel less incompetent!

Nice picture.
#5: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Sep 27, 2011
Yes, it is challenging bugaboo, Im glad you said so, I went and solved this one two times myself, just to make sure it was solvable by logic, and it was a little easier the second time, but it still drove me batty. I have been taking notes from Gator!
Thanks all :)
#6: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Sep 27, 2011
Really cute marz.:)

Thanks Aldege :)
#8: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Sep 27, 2011 [HINT]
I admit I used some "how Marz tends to make puzzles" logic, and it was an easy solve for me. I guess "these parts should attach here" logic isn't foolproof, but it works 90% of the time. :)
#9: Teresa K (fasstar) on Sep 28, 2011
This was the most difficult puzzle I have solved without using hints. But the result was so worth the effort. Really cute image, Marz!
#10: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Sep 28, 2011
Sounds like good logic to me Kristen :)
Thank you Teresa :)
#11: Gator (gator) on Sep 28, 2011 [HINT]
OK, here we go...

After the initial line logic, I used edge logic in column 1 to make R15C1-R20C1 dots. More line logic.

I then did two-way logic on the 3 clue in column 19. To finish the 3 clue either R4C19-R5C19 or R7C19 will have to be black. If R5C19 is black, then R5C18 is a dot. If R7C19 is black, then R7C18 is a dot, but looking one more move ahead so is R5C18. So in either case R5C18 will be a dot.

I also made R20C2 a dot with edge logic, but so far this has not helped.

I'll get back to this.

I used the extent of my limited logic (line, edge, some two-way) and wound up guessing correctly. I defer to the more experienced solvers as to if it is logically solvable. I did like the picture though. Very nice.
#13: Gator (gator) on Sep 30, 2011 [HINT]
This is the best I can come up with for the next step (please someone post an easier step!).

Looking at row 4, if you try to place the clues as far left as you can, then look how this affects row 3. R3C6 and R3C8 would have to be dots, and one of the cells on the left (R3C3-R3C4) would have to be a dot. But if R3C3 is a dot then row 3 cannot be completed, so R3C4 would have to be the dot (and R4C4 black). This would then dictate that R3C2-R3C3 be black and R4C2-R4C3 dots. This causes column 3 to be invalid though. SO the clues cannot go all the way left. This means that R4C10 would have to be a dot.

The rest solved easily with smile logic at the end....SO is there an easier way, because I would believe Teresa would say that is too much to keep in her head? Teresa, Marie-Louise, bugaboo?

Gator, I wish I could show you how I did it, I solved it 3 times just to make sure it was logically solvable, but it's hard enough for me to follow the steps to solving a puzzle at the best of times, I don't think I could explain how I did it.
#15: Teresa K (fasstar) on Sep 30, 2011
I would not say it was too much to keep in my head as I would say it was complex and took a lot of thought. But quite solvable. And quite enjoyable. :-)
#16: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Sep 30, 2011
hey gator at the point where you used edge logic to get a dot in r20c2 (posted at the end of comment 11) you can actually get more than that; you can get another dot in r19c2 with only 1 move look ahead (look what happens at r17c4)
then there are a few more hidden/subtle dots to be placed but it solves out with line logic the rest of the way (except for the smile logic at the very end)
#17: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Oct 1, 2011 [HINT]
Ok, so here is how I did it, there is only a little bit of edge logic with this puzzle. Once you have competed all the line logic possible, and you do have to make sure you have done everything possible, then you do some edge logic with the 6 in C1. You end up with 6 dots from R20 to R15, then you can place a pixel on R9,C1.
Then do some edge logic with the 5 in C2, you end up with two dots down the bottom, and from doing that you can place a pixel from the 5 on C2, R14, from there it all solves line logically, except for the smile at the end, which of course is smile logic. It is a pig of a puzzle no doubt about it, quite complex, you have to dot every i so to speak, not miss a thing.

No guessing. Challenging puzzle. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Augustus :)
#20: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Oct 4, 2011
Found to be logically solvable by gator.
#21: Gator (gator) on Oct 4, 2011
Thanks for the help!

Yay, thank you Gator, got the ? away :)
#23: Jota (jota) on Mar 25, 2012
It most be one of those weird days, it solved easily for me and now I think I did something wrong, because it should not be easy.
#24: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz71) on Mar 26, 2012
You are just super intelligent Jota, live with it :)
#25: Teresa K (fasstar) on Mar 26, 2012
I was thinking the same thing. :-)
#26: Jota (jota) on Mar 26, 2012
;-) Thank you girls!
#27: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Aug 13, 2020 [HINT]
Cute. Until I got to the nose I thought it was a dog. It was tough to solve.
