Puzzle Description:

That's what my wife asked me when I came home from an errand with a drum set from a garage sale. I think it was a rhetorical question.

very fun solve
after initial line (and a little bit of color) logic all you need to do is use edge logic in c17
with line logic to finish
no guessing
#2: Jane Doe (telly) on Jul 9, 2011 [HINT]
that was tough but I got it without guessing.
Try edge logic on C16. that's what worked for me (starting in the lower middle).
Sounds like a loud, but fun purchase.

No guessing. Fun solve.

My son, the drummer, asks, "Does he know how to play?" He also said you could look at his YouTube video if you need "inspiration for the right way to play." That's my boy!

Oops, don't want to give the wrong impression. The drums are not for me. My kids are the musical ones.

This puzzle has a some guessing rating? I worked really had to be sure it was solvable w/o guessing. Gator, are you out there?
#8: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 10, 2011
In that case, you are a nice Daddy.

There are so many ways to try edge logic to solve this, there should be no question mark at all. We don't have to wait for Gator, if whoever marked it as needing to guess would just change their rating. How about it?

great story!

Tough puzzle and a fun story. So, it's been awhile since you created this puzzle...still have the drum set and are the kids still playing?
#16: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Sep 19, 2016
No Carol. The drum kit found a new home at our next yard sale. My son still plays trumpet. I thought my daughter would stay with percussions but she doesn't play music at all anymore.

Thanks for the update! My son played Cello in school but now he plays Guitar. My daughter played Viola in school and dabbled at the Piano but now she sings in a choral group instead. Nobody ever played the drums...

I started playing drums at age 10, in school bands and orchestras. In college I started several rock and blues bands. In my first one (didn't really count, cuz we had one gig, at a dorm party) our singer was Mike Lookinland, who played Bobby Brady!
#19: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Apr 6, 2022 [HINT]
I solved it with edge logic for the 4 in column 1 and line logic everywhere else. Interesting how different people found different places to do this.

Mike Lookinland? Coolness, Bill!

I totally love that for all of you together playing music! Wonderful story and puzzle!
