I'll bet you didn't know that wind is a form of solar energy. Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth's surface, and rotation of the earth. Wind flow patterns are changed by the earth's terrain, oceans, and vegetation. This wind flow is motion energy that is "harvested" by modern wind turbines that generate electricity.

If you have been to northern California, you may have seen the wind farms there.

U.S Energy Department officials are working to get an offshore wind farm operational off the coast of Maine within five years:

Fantastic image Teresa, this is your best energy puzzle to date in my opinion, great series. When Niki, the kids and i go for drives in the old Dodge,we go about 50 klm.south of us along the coast of lake Erie. There's a stretch of road there that has about 10 or 12 hugh windmills. They are so freaky to look at due to their size. The boys and I love watching them, but Niki can't cause they spook her.

Thanks, guys. That's a path leading to the windmill. It's a big path because it's a tourist attraction. There's nobody there right now because it's early in the morning and the area is not yet open to the public. :-)

We live near one of the California wind farms. It is really cool to drive through and sometimes dizzying to look at them as they rotate at different speeds. http://fineartamerica.com/featured/blue-wind-buffaloworks-photography.html is a photo my husband took in the wind farm.
