Puzzle Description:

Tightrope walker holding a pole for balance.

Your getting real good at these Lilly, even his hair is balanced, lol. I'll call him Tyrone the terrific tightrope walker.

nice image
line/color logic solve all but the rope and his hair
then smile logic on the hair
you can then see the black clues in c11-14 must go in r1-6 so you can dot the rest of the lower right corner
then you are left with two areas that will each have a black diagonal line but i am not sure how to solve this without looking more than 2 moves ahead

tough puzzle... i got with first guess, but i was lucky, i'm not putting in a ?

Thanks, Bugaboo and Aldege.

Nice instance of summing logic to rule out the lower left squares. Before we do the smile logic though in rows 2-3, lets first rule out R3C1 and R3C14. Using summing again with rows 16-20, we need 12 cells filled in columns 7-14. This tells us that the 1 clue in column 14 has to be somewhere in rows 16-20. So R3C14 is a dot.

The same logic applies in rows 11-14 making R1C3 a dot. Now we can do the smile logic in rows 2-3.

The "diagonal logic" though makes me uncomfortable (as usual). So lets see what we can do with those.

If the 3 clue in row 14 is in columns 1-3, then we can see that R1C11-R3C12 (six cells) would be dots (this is one move ahead). Then R11C5 and R12C5 would have to be black (two moves ahead). This would make column 5 invalid though, so R1C14 must be a dot. This will let us finish the left diagonal section.

I don't think I can find a way to tackle the lower right logically though (without looking many moves ahead).

I'm marking this as guessing for now.

Found to require some guessing by gator.

sensei you said you got it with first "guess"
even if this puzzle didnt end up needing to be guessed, the fact that you said you got it on the first guess means you HAVE to mark it as guessing

i will not put a bad mark on lilly

Cute puzzle, Lilly. Fun logic.

Thx, Teresa.

This puzzle is logical except for the head part. The head part is what I call a logical guess. Great puzzle!!!

Your "logical guess" is called "smile logic" in here. :)

Thanks, Ailsa.

Found to be solvable with deep lookahead by jan.

Just updating Gator's previous ruling. He would have put it in the deep lookahead category if that category had existed at the time.

There really should be some way to put a firm logical foundation under "diagonal" logic such as is used in this puzzle. But it's absurdly hard to formulate a clear argument for why the solution has to be one particular diagonal and not the other diagonal, or some random collection of splotches that isn't a diagonal at all.
