Puzzle Description:

molas are handcrafted by the Kuna people of Kuna Yala (San Blas Islands, Panama). multiple layers (2 or more) of fabric are cut through, and a pattern constructed, of the cutouts and remaining pieces, is then hand-sewn to further enhance the pattern. the stitches are amazingly small and the finished products are a major part of the Kuna income. The Kuna people have an interesting history... google it. :-)

fantastic. i first heard about the kuna from my ex-husband, who is panamanian. he was struck by some of the similarities between them and the native americans in the u.s. this puzzle shows a beautiful design.

the cut out style is similar to the Hmong textile art of southeast asia also, Linda. makes one ponder, yes?

thanks all!
