Puzzle Description:

Napa Cabbage. Recipe to follow. Probably best not to look Bugaboo. Why upset yourself?

Kimchee. 1-2inch dice of cabbage. Toss with course salt and leave in colander in the sink for half hour. Rinse. Pack in a jar with shreaded carrots, ginger, scallions. garlic, sugar, red pepper flakes, salt and water to cover. Leave on counter 2 days then move fridge. Use in stir fries with beef chicken or pork YUM!

ate lots of kimchee in korea...they bury it underground there

My husband tells a good kimchee story. **NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART** He was staying with a Korean family (there was no central Air Force base in Korea), and as the honored guest they gave him kimchee every day (the buried underground for 6 months variety). After about a week, he was starving (he doesn't eat green things, much less spiced and fermented). He went to the market, where the delicious aroma of shish kebabs wafted through the air. As he approached and motioned that he wanted some, the man gestured to a row of cages, each containing a dog. Well he was REALLY hungry, so he pointed to one of the cages. The man picked up the dog by the scruff of the neck and walked to a little shed. "Well, at least I don't have to watch him do it," thought James. As the man was walking into the shed, he cracked the dog's head against the doorway to break its neck. It was the best dog he had ever eaten.

My husband was stationed in Korea (Air Force) and he would tell me about the food. When we were stationed in Guam, there was a Korean restaurant that I wanted to go to. My husband said I wouldn't like it. But we went. He was right. I don't like kimchee. I don't like having a little bowl of dried fish on the table.
In a book about China, I read "they eat everything with four legs except the table, and everything with two legs except for people". I don't know if that is true or not.

I somehow missed these two "great" stories. Thank you Kristen and Sarah. I'm a bit surprised no one else commented. Perhaps too big a culture clash for most people. Have we ever had "strangest food eaten" puzzles?
