Halfway through - it seems to require guessing on first look.

#5: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Jan 16, 2011 [HINT]
I had to make one guess then everything fell into place. Nice puzzle.
#6: Bryan (Cyclone) on Jan 16, 2011
I still find it needs guessing. And I hate that, because it forces one to move ahead and potentially have to backtrack.
#7: Gator (Gator) on Jan 16, 2011
Agreed. Still needs guessing...
#8: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jan 16, 2011

#9: Jota (jota) on Jan 16, 2011

#10: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Jan 16, 2011
I'm sorry Gator... i presume that row 20 is the problem
i thought that c-8,12,20 had to be dots or row 18 won't work out.... i'll try again
don't be sad Jota
#11: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jan 16, 2011
just solved version 2 with no guessing...not sure if what i did constituted too much look-ahead or not...but it didn't seem like it...no one place broke it free...got stuck several times and muscled through it.

by the way, weird picture tom. nice challenge.

come on sensei you can do it
#15: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jan 17, 2011 [HINT]
glad i could be a sunny spot in your day tom.

i had to use some uncommon logic that isn't really described in the site's advanced logic section it was sort of a free-floating edge logic with a hint of two-way. its the kind of thing where a long column of blacks cross rows with only multiples unaccounted for so that you know other blacks have to branch off one direction or the other. watch for places where there's no way to alternate the branching without violate one of the two adjacent columns. does that make sense?
#16: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Jan 17, 2011
yes David & thx again
i can do what, bugaboo?
#17: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Jan 17, 2011
