as soon as i saw the clues and the title i knew what this would be

Try making a red and green checkered pattern in the center circle and stand far enough away that you can no longer resolve individual pixels. You should see yellow.
#6: Mendy (Mendy3273) on Jan 12, 2011 [SPOILER]
I thought you were wanting to slow down... ;-)
#7: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Jan 12, 2011
nice job. brian is right - i think it's called "dithering".
#8: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Jan 13, 2011 [SPOILER]
It might be... but then again, maybe it's not. No, it is. Or not... It definitely is!! I think... :P

The best I could get was a reddish-orange by dithering. The green is not bright enough.

Here's it with a yellow center:
http://postimage.org/image/2g7wjzffo/

The green used on webpbn is 00E000. (red=0, green=224, blue=0)
Since the red is FF0000 (r=255, g=0, b=0), the green is washed out by the red and a murky orange results from a 50-50 dithering.
The picture above has the center green adjusted to 00FF00.

wow...thanks for demo, Joe

Clever puzzle
#12: Janet (jltho) on Jan 14, 2011
Very cool on the "dithering" Joe but I still want yellow! And orange, and brown....
#13: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Jan 14, 2011
how about gray ...for toning/shadowing
#14: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 17, 2011
Wow, Joe. That's a very cool effect.

Janet, after you've been here long enough, you will begin so "see" yellow and orange and purple. Jan has his reasons for not adding more colors, and they are good ones. Read the forum (I'm not sure which topics address color).
#15: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Jan 18, 2011
i would really love to have gray added
#16: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Apr 24, 2011
Whoa Joe! Neat!

A recent puzzle made me wonder about the range of dithering coloring, so I made 21313:
http://webpbn.com/find.cgi?search=1&author=infrapinklizzard&minid=21313&maxid=21313&unqual=1&undiff=1

I would recommend peeking rather than solving; it's a horribly boring solve.
