Mental health is the number 1 problem in the world. It drives people to commit murder and to abuse alcohol, drugs, etc.

What a beautiful tribute! I have been listening to all the news reports about this terrible tragedy and pray that Congresswoman Giffords recovers.

Thank you, Susan. It's so distressing. Gabby's chief of staff is also a good friend. Ron Barber was standing next to Gabby and he also was shot (twice) and is one of those who were in serious condition. Ron was my boss before he left the Div. of Developmental Disabilities to work with Gabby. He is such a good person. He is actually responsible for turning my volunteer job into a paid position with the State. He and Gabby and their families are very close. They are two of my favorite people in the world.

Jota, you are so right. Besides the stress of knowing my friends were shot and seriously injured, I'm also dealing with some pretty awful mental health issues my daughter Karie is having this past week. I almost had to have her hospitalized today. Poor thing, she cannot help it, control it, or even see that it is abnormal behavior. I deal with people like this in my job. In fact, I have many families on my case load whose teens are very much like the shooter. The teens on my case load all suffer from prenatal exposure to alcohol. All of them look normal in appearance, have normal intelligence, but cannot function well in school or in life, they have few if any friends, don't always make a lot of sense, and have very poor judgment that can put themselves or others at risk. It's a very scary disorder.

teresa, your puzzle is a wonderful tribute to gabrielle giffords. i pray for her recovery and the recovery of all those who were harmed. i also pray for the deceased and their loved ones. this is so tragic. and i hope your daughter pulls through this episode none the worse for wear - she's blessed to have you, a mother who understands what she is going through and loves her nonetheless. others are not so fortunate. take care.
