Per comment #7, I am the latter. Played the original SMB on Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988. Played pretty much every adventure game since then (except Virtual Boy, which didn't last long), and today also have other games like Mario Kart, Mario Party, and others. I've owned every popular Nintendo system. So I know Mario quite well and this mushroom is a nice retro (and still current) image.

I suppose most people would recognize Mario, even if they have not played the game. But I bet most people don't know what this image is. Not everyone plays Nintendo.

Cute little puzzle anyway. Clever title.

This is just overly cropped, so it looks more abstract. Once I saw what it was supposed to be, I was able to mentally draw the rest.

It's funny how, in a b&w puzzle that's heavily cropped, people marvel at the genius of the cropping. I think some folks are just prejudiced against color. ;)
