simply hang outdoors from an eave or a tree branch.
If the rock is wet, it's raining.
If the rock is white, it's snowing.
If you can see the rock, it's sunny.
If you cannot see the rock, it's nighttime.
If the rock is swaying slightly, there is a breeze.
If the rock is swinging, it is windy.
If the rock is gone, RUN. there's a tornado.

#3: Trish (tryingmysoul) on Dec 26, 2010 [SPOILER]
My rock will be white today.

Cute! Yes, my rock will also be white....oh, I'm not in the mood for snow, let alone 18 inches!
#5: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Dec 26, 2010
how funny
based on the title i was going to say the best way to know the weather is to just look outside

my rock will also be white today...you know what it already is...this stuff started sticking right away

We had our share two weeks ago, so you can keep it! We already had a state of emergency and our entire season's snowfall all at once! Puzzle's way too easy, obviously just a fun quick-solve, and I've heard of this this rock before. =)

lol! too cute, sarah. still no snow in colorado springs so the rock will be dry (and warm).
#10: Kylee (motobabe440) on Dec 26, 2010 [HINT] [SPOILER]
technically it doesnt predict the weather lol, just tells you what it currently is.
#11: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Dec 26, 2010
Whenever I told the story, I said it "tells the weather", thus implying the forecasting while still being technically true.

Oh, and having learned it in Scout camp, it was an "indian weather rock."

That's really funny, Sarah. Thanks for the smile.

I spend too much time on Facebook... I keep trying to "like" this. :) Yes, its a quick simple puzzle and the joke is an oldie but goodie but I still like it.

bugaboo, kylee and joe, you are right - it tells the current weather, not predicts it. I didn't word it right. I only heard about this recently. It is a Boy Scout thing; Joe's right...Indian weather rock sounds better. No white rock here. Linda and I are probably the few without snow; watched the weather tonight and so many places are getting too much.

jajaja, muy divertido!!!!
