I had a run in with a rattlesnake once, though. I stopped in time (walking on a hiking trail) and gave him the right of way. :-)

I see/get near at least two rattlesnakes per year in Colorado on the trails, with the dogs and when I'm digging up noxious/invasive weeds. One of our dogs got bitten once, but we got her to the animal hospital quickly and she turned out OK.
