EXCELLENT !#3: Paul Blascovich (paulb23) on Nov 10, 2008 [SPOILER]
Those are sea lions, not seals. Nice picture, though.#4: Jota (Jota) on Nov 10, 2008 [SPOILER]
Sorry to disagree, but I only see a hole as an ear, so definitely a seal!#5: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 11, 2008 [SPOILER]
Hmm. Paul may be right. It seems that most performing "seals" are actually California sea lions. The sleeker shape of this creature is a bit more sea lion like than seal like.#6: Bionerd (nieboo) on Nov 11, 2008 [SPOILER]
Haha, surprised I didn't make that call. This was before I started commenting though. That's definitely a sea lion.#7: Jota (Jota) on Nov 11, 2008
What about the ears?#8: Bionerd (nieboo) on Nov 11, 2008 [SPOILER]
he has his head turned so it's dead on, thus you can't see the ear flap from this angle.#9: Jota (Jota) on Nov 11, 2008 [SPOILER]
Seals can't hold their weight up like that on their flippers. They kinda flop around like a catepillar to move on land. Also the front flippers are longer like a sea lion. Seals have short stubby front flippers.
Thanks! A sea lion it is then.#10: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Nov 13, 2008
I love how these comment teach us something#11: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on May 26, 2009
Ok...#12: Cro-Magnon (Hermit) on Dec 6, 2009 [SPOILER]
I'm continuously amazed at the things I learn on this site. I never know quite what to expect when I solve and then view the comments. Sit down to do a nice snack size puzzle, which I enjoyed, then I end up learning the difference between seals and sea lions (which I never knew before). Good stuff. :-)#13: larrry grizzard (gizzard) on Sep 30, 2011
The difference is that the latter are more charged up -- it's the extra ions, y'know.#14: bugaboo (bugaboo) on Jan 8, 2012
that was quite funny, gizzard#15: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Feb 21, 2017
I wish Jan were still around for me to tell him what a great image this is. I especially like the standing on one flipper.#16: darren jackson (hi) on Dec 20, 2020 [SPOILER]
OOOOHH I thought it was a melting lollipop or a lollipop volcano or a volcano with a bubble of lava.
