Topic #360: WCP Judges
By Jota (jota)

#1: Jota (jota) on Nov 3, 2012

I had an idea, let's see if it catches ...

Those of you interested in being "sporadic" judges for the WCP, should email me at maryjohausmann@yahoo.com, and provide me with your name, email and phone number. After being approved, you could email me every "judgement day" by 6 PM Easter US time, giving your choices for first, second and third places.
I'll assign 10 points to each first entry, 5 to each 2nd and 3 to each third.

Tom and I will "meet" as we always do and "make" the final decision, including our selection and considering any eventuality.

What do you think?

You have been two for a while now, and it seems difficult to recruit a third judge. So, I was thinking the third judge could be a "guest" judge. Someone who would be part of the judging panel for a given Challenge without "permanent" status. An active player who could prepare theme and rules for one WC where he/she is available and willing to judge.
What do you think?

#711: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Feb 6, 2012

I'll leave it up to Jota...but frankly,,, i don't like a part time judge...sorry Kadou
#3: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Nov 3, 2012
Okay Jota ... great idea...Kadou is just being un-gentlemanly devious again and surely only wants to cause disruption as usual ...sooo ignore him...hugsssss
#4: Kadou (Kadou) on Nov 3, 2012
Tom, I was pointing out this "idea" was suggested 9 months ago. You two are not the only ones around.
#5: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Nov 3, 2012
wait a sec.... how exactly is Kadou being devious? didn't jota ask for a "sporadic" judge? how is that different from a "guest" judge, other than in name? I don't get it. seems to me, he said exactly what jota did, but maybe I'm missing something. there's definitely no need to be rude.
#6: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 3, 2012
It's ok, Kurt. Tom and Jota must be clearly having an affair that has become more and more openly obvious to everyone if you think about it. Maybe I am the only one willing to post it.
:-)
It just seems strange otherwise that those 2 defend each other to the death, at whatever expense, regardless of the facts that have been presented before the court. So they just choose to stick together and try and take down the masses. LOL
#7: Jota (jota) on Nov 3, 2012
WAIT! I proposed and idea, I want to get several "sporadic" people to "judge" via email. I couldn't handle having to contact a different "third" person every time. It just would not work.

So I'll ignore the previous exchange, which I don't find funny, BTW, and wait for comments on my proposal.
#8: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Nov 3, 2012
I hate to sound like a jack-ass, but here goes. I honestly think Kadou said the same thing as what was suggested. Maria, a "third" person wouldn't work? until recently, there were always 3 people. As for the rude comments, I think I know where this is going, and it's honestly better to get it over with, rather than the passive-aggressive BS that's been going on. You have a loyalty to Tom, and I get that. It's admirable. Tom, as a person, I think you're funny and witty. I'd not cease to talk to you, and I could really care less if you persist as a WCP judge or not. But I'm sure you know that I've heard certain rumors. It's time to put them to bed. As a matter of fact, on my way to find Topic 360, I stumbled across another forum from bug congratulating you to 1000 puzzles. anyone could do a quick check to find that isn't the case. something happened from then til now. I'm a forgive and forget kinda guy, but if you did what is rumored, it's best to come clean. Admit or deny straight out and be done with it. enough people have heard something or another. and I'm not trying to be an A-hole. I just want it to be over, and I'm sure you do too. there's only one way to do that.
#9: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Nov 3, 2012
and you guys might hate me for what I said, and I'll delete if you ask me to. but I'm honestly trying to help a bad situation, not make it worse.
#10: Jota (jota) on Nov 3, 2012
A third " different person each time, will not work . That's what I meant.
Kurt if you read Forum Copyright I think you'll find Tom's history and apology.
Thanks for your comment!

I got out of the original post that "sporadic" judges would be more than one person emailing her a week and then getting the point values assigned, with her and Toms opinions having more weight or maybe even being a tie breaker, if necessary. Whereas I heard Kadou's as a guest judge which would be one specific person that may change. Am I wrong?
#13: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Nov 4, 2012
OK that just about enought for me

I'm in no power to do anything but that whole war piss me off so much that IF it was only for me I JUST CLOSE THIS OFF

I start the wcp many years ago as a way to help member create new puzzle and as a way to bring some sort of friendly competition it was suppose to be a good thing and it was for a long time. But as I pretty much left the thing go this place became a place of boost out ego and out of this place personality and it seem to run on one scandal after another. What your all doing in your personal life doesn't concern me and I dont really care.

But since you seem to find this little game is a good place to run your personnal war then why just don't close the thing and forgot about it. Last time I check nobody here need those puzzle to survive so its not a essential thing to have a wcp every week. Close it be done.

Puzzle will still be create life will continue and it will be one less subjet to bitch around.

That it I'm both disgust and piss
So I'm out of here do whatever you want with it
after all its not worth it anymore

Sorry, I haven't seen that yet, jota. I'm at work, so I'll check all of that out a lil later. Didn't mean to re-open old stuff if that's already been done. just tired of drama/passive-aggressiveness. As I'm sure I've said before, I have a bad habit of letting comments spew from my pie-hole uncensored before fully understanding or looking/thinking deeper....my apologies.
#15: Jota (jota) on Nov 4, 2012
Teresa, you should remove your post from here and create your own forum, this is not why I created this one.

Sylvain, you are 100 % right, I've been just trying to keep it "alive" because it has been so good to us, but to many "egos" against it.
#16: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 4, 2012
We all have egos, don't we. My ego is not against the WCP. In fact, I love it, the competition, the puzzles, the different themes, the 3Q interview. (Brilliant idea, Sylvain.)

There were several people who contacted me who had various opinions about what should be done. I simply put those different opinions into a survey so everyone could have a chance to say what they think, without worrying about repercussions from others.

I'm on my way to have a visit with my daughter. I'll move my invitation for the survey to a new Topic as soon as I return (3-4 hours).
#17: Jota (jota) on Nov 4, 2012
Goldie you are 100% correct!
#18: Rea Aksglæde Karlsen (Rea) on Nov 4, 2012
i know ive been gone from here for some time. But i used to like WCP. and I find it sad that nobody has actually answered Jota. So I will, it sounds like a good idea, im not up fore it but I whould be worried about 3 things: 1. people whoting for themselves in someway but I think Jota can handle that. 2. not enought people to comepeet in the contest if everybody is judges so there should be a limit or something. 3. making the contest/judging only for americans with timezones differenses like for me 0.00 am is 9 am here. All this being said it doesn't much matter to me since i dont come here much anymore and only do random puzzles when i do.
#19: Jota (jota) on Nov 4, 2012
Thanks Rea! I appreciate your answer. The reason I asked for name and phone number is exactly to make sure that the people that come into this are real and not hiding behind some "username". I want people who want to have fun and I'll try my hardest to spot "funnies". Keep on checking us, we are trying out best!
Thanks again.
#20: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 4, 2012
Don't worry, Jota, I am NOT going to attempt anything like that. :-) I care too little about the WCP to even try. Plus, I had my year as judge, and that was more than enough!
#21: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Nov 4, 2012
keep strong Jota... only a few are being negative!
Rea ...thanks for your input, i'm sure we can work with your concerns & your time zone.
#22: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 5, 2012
A weird mental picture just popped into my head...somebody walks into a hospital who has been shot in the arm, so the doctor punches them in the stomach to distract from the pain and prescribes a towel to catch the blood. Whether that's funny or sad, the point is the same.
#23: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Nov 6, 2012
Teresa...you are quite a trip... first you didn't keep your word to Jota and remove this survey and put it into another forum. 2nd your survey is soooo bias. 3rd you stopped your survey so quick noone else could take it. I guess only your friends get to cast their votes and we, by your standard, un-friends, get no vote. You are a sad surveyor indeed! Please quit trying to destroy our wonderful WCP platform; the one you only had helped with for a couple of months or so; and missed 2 times helping us with those votes. WE will survive within you or without you!
#24: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 7, 2012
Hmmm... I'm now considering putting the WCP into hiatus. Sylvain started it, I supported it by creating the "Honors" page. For a long time it contributed a lot to the fun of webpbn.

It doesn't really seem to be all that much fun now, Sylvain is clearly pretty much fed up with it (and given that he's a patient and forgiving fellow, that's saying a lot). Maybe we should just shut down, at least for a while. It would still people possible for people to organize informal contests through the forums. Maybe our "official" contest has gotten a bit too dysfunctional and needs a rest.
#25: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Nov 7, 2012
I guess I am relatively unaffected since I consciously stopped participating anyway...but am sad that it isn't being fixed instead. Looking forward to its Phoenix moment.
#26: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 7, 2012
Oh my. First of all, I apologize for not moving my comment from this forum topic (although it WAS about WCP judges) to a new topic as soon as I predicted I would. My daughter had another crisis that day, and yesterday, and today, that needed immediate intervention. So I have not had lots of free time to do less important things like edit comments and make survey reports for you.

Second, the survey is still there. Anyone can take it who has not taken it before. Once you take it and click "done," then you cannot go back to retake it, but you can view the real time results. Just go to the original link, and you can click through the five questions and see which answers got how many votes.

Third, it is NOT my intention to have the weekly contest come to an end. It is ONLY my intention to give a chance for each individual here to express their opinion anonymously, because any comments made openly are so quickly attacked. Yes, it was biased, even though I tried to be fair, my bias showed. I guess I'm human after all. I think Jan is probably the only one who could make an unbiased survey. :-)
