I Jan its been said numorous time before and this week with the theme asking to revisit past WC puzzle the problem appears again. The search engine don't take 2 letter words in account when checking for puzzle.#2: Jota (jota) on Apr 18, 2009
I think that three solution are possible here if you are willing to take some time for us at the WC.
the first would be to create a diffrent tab for the WC puzzle ( just like the tab for our own puzzle) where every puzzle starting with WC would be safe in a diffrent list than the "normal" puzzle
second idea is to edit all past WC puzzle and to replace WC by WeekC in the title so that the search engine can list them if you do a check
third solution would be changing the seting of the search engine but I think that way more complicated than it look like from what I read in a past forum.
This is just one favor I ask of you but its far from being that important and you can feel free to just say you don't have time to spend on this and it will be ok with me too no hard feeling here as the WC is just a small part of the whole pbn.com experiment and not that important in the end
thank you again for all your past involment at making this place better and better all the time
Could we list in the honor tab a link to all the puzzles that participated in each WC?n This to me sounds like the best and simplest solution. I could do it if you allow me to.#3: Rea Aksglæde Karlsen (Rea) on Apr 18, 2009
good idea jota#4: Jan Wolter (jan) on Apr 21, 2009
Easiest change would be to tell the database to index two letter words as well as longer words. I think this is actually fairly painless to do, I just need to get around to it.#5: judy (jbreese) on Apr 27, 2009
I'm pretty new to this but am really caught up in it.#6: Twillis (twillis) on Apr 27, 2009
What's a WC puzzle? I'm assumming that it's not one you work on in the Water Closet?
It stands for "Weekly Challenge", where people create puzzles based on a particular theme.#7: judy (jbreese) on Apr 27, 2009
OK. What was the last WC?#8: Jota (jota) on Apr 27, 2009
Judy: please check the HONORS tab on the left, there you'll find all the themes and winners!#9: Jan Wolter (jan) on Apr 27, 2009
Maybe we *should* rename the WC. That's such an unfortunate name.#10: Jan Wolter (jan) on Apr 27, 2009
WD = Weekly Derby
WR = Weekly Rally
WPC = Weekly Puzzle Challenge
Changing it to three letters would make it easily searchable.
I think I like WPC better than weekc.#11: Jota (jota) on Apr 27, 2009
How about WCP ? I'm kind of used to the WC and this way it'll remain somehow.#12: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Apr 27, 2009
WCP is good with me#13: Jan Wolter (jan) on Apr 28, 2009
do we make the change officially???
I started doing this, but had doubts.#14: Jota (jota) on Apr 28, 2009
In the puzzle title it works kind of OK. Titles would look like:WCP #77: Frogs do itWhich you could read as "Weekly Contest Puzzle Number Seventy-seven". Except it isn't the seventh puzzle, it's the 7th contest.
And if you say "The theme for WCP #77 is smoke" are you saying "The theme for weekly challenge puzzle number seventy seven is smoke"?
And on the Honors page, where it currently says "Weekly Challenge #77: smoke" should it now say "Weekly Challenge Puzzle #77: smoke"?
It a terribly ungrammatical acronym. It's going to make my brain hurt every time I see it used. Plus it's kind of a transition from the toilet to what's mellowing in the toilet.
I think before I do the work of changing this over, I'd like to be sure that this is what we really want to do, and that we have no better ideas.
#77 WCP : frogs do it.#15: Deana L (FFsWife) on Apr 28, 2009
The theme for the 77th Weekly Challenge Puzzle is: Frogs do it>
I like it!#16: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Apr 28, 2009
I like it too since a couple of WC were on more than one week#17: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Feb 22, 2011
I think that Jota's idea of naming the number of the contest before is great
so starting this sunday it could be #32 WCP: XXXXXX ( I ain't going to tell you already)
@ #14 -- opportunity lost! :(#18: Jota (jota) on Feb 23, 2011
I know Joe and I wanted to see them doing it ...#19: Jane Doe (telly) on Mar 1, 2011
