Puzzle Description:

She got a phone call from her mother last night and it went something like this (the caps are her mother, who's quite hard of hearing): "Yes, who's calling?" "IT'S ME, DEAR" "(muffled groan) Oh, Hi Mom!" "GUESS WHAT?" "Do I have to?" "YOUR FATHER AND I ARE COMING TO VISIT! "(under her breath) He's not my father." "WHAT'S THAT?" "Oh, I had something in my throat. Uh, when are you planning to come?" "WE'RE FLYING IN NEXT FRIDAY! ISN'T THAT A NICE SURPRISE?" "Wonderful. Uh, what hotel will you be staying at?" "WELL, DEAR, WE THOUGHT WE'D STAY WITH YOU!" "Excuse me?" "YEAH, YOU KNOW HOW TIGHT THINGS ARE NOW THAT YOUR DAD AND I ARE BOTH RETIRED. WE CAN SLEEP IN THAT EXTRA BEDROOM YOU HAVE AND YOU WON'T EVEN KNOW WE'RE THERE!" "(silence) Well, that'll be great, mom. Uh, I have a friend I'd like you to meet. A guy friend." "A BOYFRIEND? HEY BOB! SHE HAS A BOYFRIEND! YOUR FATHER SAYS HI." "Tell Bob I said hi, mom." "IS HE RICH? WHAT'S HIS NAME? DOES HE COME FROM A GOOD FAMILY? WHAT RELIGION IS HE?" "Mom, I gotta go. I think I hear my doorbell. Give me a call next week and let me know when you get here. I'll pick you up from the airport." "OK, DEAR. OH, THIS'LL BE SO MUCH FUN!" "Loads." "BYE, DEAR. LOVE YOU!" "Love you, too, mom. Bye."

First, another awesome puzzle Linda. Now, it looks like she isn't looking forward to this visit. Mom looks like a real treat with the martini and the long red finger nails. He hasn't moved in yet because that would require a lot of explaining. She certainly looks distressed!

Susan - you're good. Yes, the poor thing - she loves her mother but has to keep her at arm's length. Thankfully, these surprise visits are few and far between. And to think, she was just on the verge of asking him to move in with her when she got this call...

Oh my goodness, the plot takes an interesting turn. Such fun! I love the expression on her face, and her Mom's red nails. This will be a real test to see how strong the relationship is. :-)

Hey Teresa! This new twist sure has taken me for a loop! I certainly hope they can weather this impending storm...

The conversation is even better than the puzzle! :)

Muy buen puzzle y realista conversación. Yo creo que entre hijos y padres no debe de haber nunca secretos para evitar situaciones violentas.
