The Hadean Eon is the first eon in the Precambrian Period, marking the approximate formation of the Earth 4.5 billion years ago. The oldest dated zircon crystals date from about 4.4 billion years ago, enclosed in a metamorphosed sandstone conglomerate of gneiss rock formations in Western Australia.
