Puzzle Description:

A scarab with the sun overhead. Khepri was the Egyptian god of the rising sun. He renewed it every morning and rolled it across the sky. The dung beetle was seen as an earthly reflection of him.

Color, edge, two-way, and smiles, this has it all.

(in that order.)

More specifically:

After the red is done, the black can be started at the top with some edge logic. (Start with row 3)

Coming down the sides, More edge logic (rows 9-12) will enable you to continue.

Halfway down the puzzle, you must do the blue if you haven't already. (You can finish the blue before the black is started.)

Now some two-way logic in rows 21-22:
there is a 1,1 on the left side (columns 3-6); The right 1 in r21 must be in either c5 or c6.
>If it is in r21c6, then the space under it must be white. Ergo r22 must have black in c3 & c5.
>If it is in r21c5, then the space under it must be black. Ergo r22 must have black in c3 & c5.
So, either way r22c3 & r22c5 must be black.

The same happens on the other side of the image, but mirrored.

Now some smile logic on c3-4. Also on c16-17.
And to finish, a bit more on r31-32

Wow, that was a great challenge, and an interesting image.

I'm not sure I can attest to its solvability via logic alone only because for some of the two-way logic I did trial-and-error to see which worked and which didn't. I think that was only for visual help, but I'm not positive all of it was logical and not intuitive. I also have to find out what "smile logic" is (I'm a relative newbie to using anything besides row logic), because I'm not certain whether I used it or not!

Liz, go to Forum Topic #99, and click on the link in comment #1. It will explain several different types of logic.

My tutorial explaining the tricky bits of the logic in more detail with pictures is at http://infrapinklizzard.deviantart.com/art/Khepri-Logic-154860157

Found to be logically solvable by Gator.

Joe, I wandered away from your link to look at your website, http://infrapinklizzard.deviantart.com/ , and was very impressed. You do much cool stuff.

Very nice tutorial too.

Thank you, Jan.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, Joe. I got stuck and your tutorial was a big help, as I couldn't "see" the last smile logic. I had to smile at the term "purple logic." :-)

Thanks, Kurt, and everyone from 4(!) years ago.

It's not often that my older puzzles get commented on anymore. But they're not all balls of dung!
