Fun puzzle to solve. I don't get what the image is, though. I see the "E" and the "R" with a crown (?) above that. Please enlighten me.

It looks like it could be a close up of a Christmas ornament.

I also thought it was a fun solve but also don't understand the image.
Did you really type all that in the description or did you just copy and paste?

I think this might be the back of the Coronation Medal:

"Her complete list of titles is so long that, according to rumor, if she's ever late for an engagement the herald will just keep on reading them until she arrives." -Wikipedia

Very pleasiing puzzle, Joe.

That link didn't work.

It still works for me. Check the mother link and see if that works:

It is a medallion on the Tower of London. The original for this is at http://i.pbase.com/v3/93/329493/1/47605053.toweroflondon113.JPG

I did ^C^V the text, but I also did go through it to remove all the footnotes...

<Info overload>
Oh, and I meant to have in the description that she ascended to the monarchy 6th Feb 1952, (58 years ago on the day the puzzle was published).

Teresa, the second link you posted worked fine. Thanks. Joe, your link didn't work for me, either.

Does anyone know how I can become a member of the Most Honourable Order of the Garter? :)
#17: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Apr 14, 2012 [SPOILER]
Thanks, Debbie.
Charlie - It would be particularly helpful if you were a citizen of England and Wales, and being a close friend of the British monarch is probably not a bad idea.

Charlie - first you have to start wearing garters... ;)

what are the titles the crown can still claim now? Burma is not even Burma, the majority of Ireland is free of British rule as is India.
#20: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Nov 20, 2013 [SPOILER]
The crown should still be able to claim all of these. Most are just the head of a particular organization within the peerage--the orders--rather than a country. The duchies and other domains are hereditarily owned. Defender of the Faith puts her at the head of the Church of England.

So that just leaves 'Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas'. Scotland still hasn't left Great Britain, the UK still has Northern Ireland, and they still have overseas possessions (eg the Falklands) and dominions (eg Canada). So we're all good.

You might think it strange, but the number of dominions has actually increased since she became queen. This is not because of new conquests, but actually due to the loosening of the empire. A dozen former possessions have become independent but stayed in the commonwealth as dominions.
