Puzzle Description:

"...there must be a new land!" Columbus's Santa Maria, 1492

#1: Tonia Bergh (tonia) on Sep 16, 2009 [SPOILER]

Can you imagine the courage it would take to set off on a journey of discovery with the technology of the 1400's, facing the possibility that your ship could sail off the edge of the world? This is a rather poor rendition of the Santa Maria, and I trust you'll understand the lack of details, such as proper rigging! The Santa Maria was a rather cumbersome nao (cargo vessel) with an estimated 75' deck and 25' beam. She ran aground and was destroyed on a coral reef off the coast of modern-day Haiti on Christmas Eve 1492.

Tonia, this is an excellent puzzle! There's lots of detail (considering the size restriction), the image is fantastic, and it was lots of fun to solve with the color logic.

I made an error the first time through, ran aground and ended up clearing and restarting. I ended up sailing right through the second try and thoroughly enjoyed solving this puzzle. It really put the wind in my sails.

I'm now solving the more difficult puzzles from days gone by and was so happy to have caught up with this one. A treat to solve and an outstanding image -- thank you, Tonia.

Absolutely beautiful! And very tricky solve, too.
