Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment tool that categorizes personalities into 16 different types, according to four dichotomies of temperament:

Extraversion-------Introversion
Sensing------------iNtuition
Thinking-----------Feeling
Judging------------Perceiving

To find out your personality type, take the online test here:

INTJs are introspective, analytical, determined persons with natural leadership ability. Being reserved, they prefer to stay in the background while leading. Strategic, knowledgeable and adaptable, INTJs are talented in bringing ideas from conception to reality. They expect perfection from themselves as well as others and are comfortable with the leadership of another so long as they are competent. INTJs can also be described as decisive, open-minded, self-confident, attentive, theoretical and pragmatic.

Famous INTJ's include C.S. Lewis, Susan B. Anthony, Lance Armstrong, Dan Aykroid, Phil Donahue, Peter Jennings, Michelle Obama, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

INTJ Population
Total: 1.5%
Male: 2.5%
Female: 0.5%

I was wondering what on earth this was. I saw 2 cats and 2 chess pieces, and wondered why tiny cats were playing with chess pieces, or why normal sized cats were playing with large chess pieces.

The picture is from a quilt. These figures were three squares. I thought it would make a nice puzzle. And I thought it would fit with this personality type. I think if cats could take the Myers Briggs test, most of them would be INTJ.
#6: Merili (merilinnuke) on Jul 26, 2009 [SPOILER]
I just took the test and turns out I'm INTJ.
Good idea for a puzzle :)
#7: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 26, 2009
Thanks, Merili. I did this one first for a reason. I suspect that the percentage on this web site will be a lot higher than in the general population. I hope everyone will post the results of their test here so we can see if my theory is correct. :-)
#8: Deana L (FFsWife) on Jul 26, 2009
Haven't taken one of those tests in ages, but last time I did, I was ESTP. I don't think that works anymore....
#9: Joanna Hinks (jchinks) on Jul 27, 2009
I took the Myers-Briggs test years ago and I'm INTJ. I suspect you're right about the skewed statistics.
#10: Jan Wolter (jan) on Jul 27, 2009 [SPOILER]
Once upon a time when, we I was a professor, someone had the bright idea to pack up the whole faculty to a leadership seminar. They started by giving us a short version of the Myers-Briggs test. After we took the test and while they were tabulating, they showed us the 4x4 grid of personality types. They told us the squares in the corners tended to be extremists and the ones in the middle more conciliatory types, who could help bridge the differences between the extremists. So they plotted all the professors and every single one was in a corner, with nobody in the middle at all. Later I computerized the test and let the secretaries take it. They were all in the middle. So apparently the only thing holding the department together was the secretarial staff. Which pretty much explained everything.

If I remember right, I was an INTJ. So, I intuitively think I'll judge this puzzle to be OK.
#11: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 27, 2009
Jan, you are a tough judge to please. :-) Thanks for the great story. It makes perfect sense.
#12: Gator (Gator) on Jul 29, 2009
INTJ here.
#13: Jota (jota) on Jul 30, 2009
ENFJ
#14: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 30, 2009
Aha, another intuitive! I'll get to you extroverts in a few days. :-)
#15: Barb Edwards (babarann) on Jul 30, 2009
INFJ. My son is too, which does not surprise me. We'll never know what my husband and daughter are, because they'll never have the patience nor enough interest to take the test. Maybe that's a clue to their type.
#16: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 30, 2009
LOL, Babarann. I think I remember reading about a study that shows when it is voluntary, the IN's are more likely to want to take it. So my theory about the people on this site isn't really valid, unless EVERYbody takes it and posts their results. Anymore Extrovert Sensing types out there?
#17: Gator (Gator) on Jul 30, 2009
You should keep a running total in the first post. :)
#18: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 31, 2009
I think that's a good idea, Gator.

For anyone who hasn't taken the test yet, here is the link:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Here's a site that has very interesting descriptions of the different types. I suggest taking the test first, then reading the description here:

#19: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 31, 2009
I decided to post the stats info as a topic on the Forum so I can include puzzlers who might not see it here.
#20: Francie (eicnarf) on Aug 1, 2009
The xeromag personality descriptions are hilarious. Apparently my greatest (only) hope for financial success is to be a contestant on a game show. (My mother once caught me answering Jeopardy questions while doing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle!)
#21: Robyn Broyles (ginkgo100) on Aug 1, 2009 [SPOILER]
As for cats, I might think they would tend to be INTPs, not INTJs. Although my black and white cat is probably more of an INFP. My Siamese probably counts as an INTJ, or even an ENTJ, since she loves when strangers come over.
#22: Teresa K (fasstar) on Aug 1, 2009
LOL, Fancie and Robyn.
#23: Teresa K (fasstar) on Aug 16, 2009
Deana, the next puzzle is for your type. If that is indeed your type. Did you check to see if you are still ESTP?
#24: Deana L (FFsWife) on Oct 27, 2009
No, haven't gone back to check. Have intended to several time, but haven't gotten to it... I *know* it's no longer me though... I last took the test my first year of college... I've changed a lot over the last year, nevermind the last almost 20!!
#25: Teresa K (fasstar) on Oct 27, 2009
It will be interesting to see if your type is the same or not. I believe I have changed drastically since the first time I took it 20 years ago, but I'm still INFJ, almost INTJ. Take the online test and let us know!
#26: Deana L (FFsWife) on Oct 27, 2009 [SPOILER]
Ok, done.... as I thought... pretty much completely different...

I am now considered ISFJ...

I was 11%
S was 25%
F was 25%
and J was 1%

I know I'm more introverted than I used to be. I can turn it on and become an "extroverted type" when it's necessary, but mostly, I'm not anymore...
#27: Teresa K (fasstar) on Oct 27, 2009
Thanks, Deana. That makes one more "Innie" to count. I can make myself act extroverted when I need to, like when I'm presenting to a large audience. It's fun, but it's more like acting and not my true self, which is a little quiet lady who likes to create and solve puzzles. :-)
#28: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on May 5, 2011
teresa, you are the most creative puzzlist on this site. i love your concept of using the cats playing chess to illustrate this puzzle. this was so fun to solve, too. i took the test:
I 89%
J 56%
T 38%
N 12%
2 of the 5 people who have most influenced my thinking are also INTJ's: ayn rand and stephen hawking.
#29: Karen Elizabeth Cairns (karxan) on Dec 2, 2020
Hi Teresa, thank you for your puzzles.
I always think "Yay!" when your puzzles come up
INFP

Karen

Another fun puzzle. Many years ago, in my high tech job, I was ISTJ. When I got early retirement 20 years ago, I was retested as INTJ, with N by a small margin. Now I am INTJ with 28% I, 22% N, 25% T and 6% J. This is probably closer to what I really am.

Again, thanks for your puzzles.

Cheers,

Don

I love that we have so many intuitive introverts here. So funny, but not surprising.

Karen, thanks so much for your comment. I have not made too many puzzles lately, as my vision is worsening. But I feel inspired to make an anagram puzzle for YOU, because your name looks like there could be some interesting possiblities. Stay tuned.

Don, thanks to you also. I don't think I have made an anagram puzzle for you either, so be on the look out. :-)
