Puzzle Description:

Not "MADD" but Happy Mom with son John, 10 years ago when excess alcohol on a holiday caused a close call. To learn about the Hole in the Wall story, see the link in the comments.

Here's the MADD news story:

This is the same story that is linked in puzzle #4566 "Angry Mom." I made this puzzle because I wanted to offer the serious puzzlers something more challenging.

Somebody has way too much time on their hands (but, so don't we all on this site). Very good. Thank you.

Thanks, everyone. It seems I get a new idea (or two or three) every day, and I can't wait to get home and create a new puzzle and solve a few too. It's a good thing I only work part time and that my volunteer work is slow right now. I love spending time here, I do, I do.

Nice solve, fantastic picture, and traumatic story with a happy ending, thank goodness.

I don't drink, and I remember a time 30 years ago when I joined a very large company a month before Christmas. It seemed that in light of the celebratory season, every week there was an excuse for a long and liquid group lunch. I ordered gingerale the first week. When I ordered club soda the following week, four different people I didn't yet know well (or at all) had already noticed and asked me,"Don't you drink?"

Thanks, Lollipop.

It's really sad when people who choose not to drink have to defend their choice, or explain why. It's even more sad that people think they HAVE to celebrate with alcohol. There are so many delish sparkly fruit drinks available now to make an occasion festive.

I am sorry to say that defending my choice was exactly what I did -- then. I felt a need to excuse myself so that I could fit in with my colleagues in a new employment situation. But I haven't done that for many years now.

I'm glad that your son have many opportunities to live, he's blessed.

What a harrowing story!
