Cool puzzle and interesting info. I didn't know there were Celtics in Austria, but I don't know much about ancient history.

Well, Rosemary, as Einstein said, don't believe everything you read on the internet ;)

Belita - I'm guessing it means that there is Celtic salt in Austria, but not necessarily that Celtic people were ever there. But this is waaaay outside my area of knowledge - I have no idea.

Hm. This page:
https://www.showcaves.com/english/at/mines/Hallstatt.html
says:

"Probably the most important sight of this mine is the Mann im Salz (man in salt) who was discovered in 1734. The body of an Celtic salt miner, about 2,500 years old, was preserved by the salt and a scientific sensation. Unfortunately it cannot be seen, as it does not exist any more. The body was preserved by the salt, but when it was braught to the curch of Hallstatt, it starte to rot and smell. The people did not know what to do with the body and so they buried it. Unfortunately they were very catholic, and so they thought it was impossible to bury him in the sacred cemertery, because he was a heathen. So they buried the corpse outside of the cemetery and the extraordinary discovery is lost for science."

Interesting!

Also interesting: Someone left a review on TripAdvisor that says there were 5,000 Celtic graves there, but that if you take a tour of the mine, the tour guides don't mention that or anything else about anything Celtic:

Apparently the Celts once lived in a large proportion of Europe before the Romans took over. https://resourcesforhistory.com/map.htm#gsc.tab=0
